Digital camera Review: COBY, is this really you? Summary: 5 Stars
Ok. First off, I have to say, I've only owned this for a few days, but I felt I had to write a review. I originally bought a DUAL XDVD-180 a couple of weeks ago. I gave that unit a really good review after only a few days as well, and it turned out to be TOTAL junk (the review has since been deleted). Never, and I mean NEVER, buy that unit. I'd go into detail, but I'd just end up getting mad over it. To make a long, painful story short, I'll just say the thing overheated and froze an hour into any DVD I tried to play.
I'm only reviewing the COBY TF-DVD7050 this early, because I can tell by the build quality, that it is obviously better. I'm glad I returned the faulty DUAL XDVD-180 to Amazon and bought the COBY. I can't even believe I'm saying I'm glad I bought a COBY, since they are usually notorious for producing junk.
This unit offers the best bang for the buck that I have ever seen in a DVD player of this sort. It feels extremely well made (with some metal parts even) and seems very durable. The unit seriously reminds me of a Panasonic Toughbook in some ways, although I doubt it's THAT well built. It is, however, the toughest portable DVD player I've ever felt.
The unit came with a headrest mounting bag. It came with two sets of headphones, and has two headphone jacks on the unit. It plays SVCD, VCD, DVD-R, DVD+R, and J-PEG. It came with a tape player adapter that allows the player to be heard through your car speakers (the unit does have its own speakers though). It also has a picture frame style, retractable stand on the back to hold it up on a table for easier viewing. The big surprise about those particular features is that, they aren't even listed in the product description. Yes, that is correct; those features are in addition to everything listed in the product description.
Everything that is listed in the product description is included, and works extremely well.
I also love how this unit comes with a battery, which makes it handy for flights. The 30 dollar more (and major piece of junk) DUAL XDVD-180 didn't even come with one.
The only possible con I can come up with is that, the LCD screen isn't the sharpest I've seen on a portable DVD player, but it's still really good.
So, unless this thing just stops working all of a sudden, like the DUAL XDVD-180 did, the COBY TF-DVD7050 is the best possible deal ever for a TABLET STYLE portable DVD player.
At a mere 150 dollars, you can't go wrong with it.
I'll update my review on this surprisingly great unit in about a month, but for now it looks like COBY has a big time winner on its hands. Who knew?
Digital camera Review: Changes Made for Poor Performance Summary: 1 Stars
We purchased a TFT Tablet-Style DVD player for our daughter to watch while riding in our Jeep Wrangler three years ago. It worked great. We even worked up a suspension rig for it so she could watch it on four wheel drive trails. We moved it to the headrest of our FJ Cruiser when we purchased that and it still worked like a champ. We used it every time we were in the car. We used it in hotels, took it on several airplane trips, on the train. There came a point(understandably)where the rechargable battery wouldn't hold a charge anymore, and the screen was getting scratched so we decided after three years to purchase a new one. EVERY DVD WE PUT IN IT SKIPPED. It was very frustrating. We did return it for a full refund, but miss the original desperately. There was some type of change in the vendor because when you turned the unit on a new name besides COBY showed up, it was maybe VOSTROS (I apologize I don't have the unit any longer to reference). This was the only difference I could detect in the product. Did we get a lemon??? Not willing to try another one at this point. Even though it did hold a charge for hours!
Digital camera Review: Cheap product doest not last, waste of money Summary: 1 Stars
I was amazed with the accessories that accompanied with its price. I also bought this dvd player as it plays most of the formats apart from DVD. It has got a good picture and sound quality which i liked. I also bought a second piece for one of my friends considering the price and the output.
Both worked for few months and all of a sudden both stopped working. Coby has proved that they sell cheap stuffs which never last. I would never ever buy any product from coby. Buyers, I would say that do not get misled by the good reviews. This is not a wise buy and you will end up paying more by buying another one soon. This DVD player will die quickly. I will buy a branded one and will never go for cheap ones.
Digital camera Review: Coby Deal Summary: 4 Stars
Though originally satisfied with the product it has stopped working after apx five hours of play time. The company will not replace it or return out money due to it being five days outside the warranty period. Buyer beware pay for a name that will stand behind it's product!
