Digital camera reviews of Coby TF-DVD7050 7-Inch TFT Portable Tablet-Style Portable DVD Player

Digital camera Review: Coby is very bad quality
Summary: 1 Stars

I own it only half year and play about 20 times. then it's totally not working. LCD is white screen and all the button is not working when you turn on it. but the warrant is only 90 days. don't order Coby stuff.

Digital camera Review: Could be better... Great product for its value
Summary: 4 Stars

The DVD player is working, but it's tricky to turn it on. I realized that you can't operate the buttons either on the monitor itself or from using the remote control unless you take the DVD player down from the headrest and place it on you lap. You have to have hold button on at all time while you watching the movie in the car (while its moving). Even very slight interference such as a slight bump on the road will shut off the player. I also found that battery is useless while you watching DVD in the car; you have to connect the power cord and forget about the battery in the car. One complaint is that once you turn the DVD player or it shuts itself off, the movie doesn't restart where you left off. It starts playing the DVD from the beginning, sort of inconvenient but a very small nuisance. Overall, great DVD player for the price. No regrets, so far. Apparently, you can buy the best of the best and still have similar problems. Then why pay high price if you can have the same quality and performance as this player for the fraction of the price.

Digital camera Review: Cute, but doesn't last
Summary: 2 Stars

My 3 year old son received this as a gift for Christmas last year. I loved all the features, great sound, great picture, nice for trips to visit family two states away. The only thing I didn't like is that I had to take the player out of the case to change the disc. Would have been nice to have some way of rigging it so I didn't have to completely take it apart. Unfortunately, it only lasted about 6 months. Brand new DVDs started reporting "Wrong disc" after playing for only a few minutes. Now it constantly freezes up, or reads "Wrong disc" and won't play at all. Maybe it's just too sensitive and needs to spend all it's time indoors...not out on the highway? I will not buy Coby again after this.

Digital camera Review: DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

Today is March 25th. I purchased this item for my fifth grader for Christmas. She has used it carefully for only 3 months, and the battery will not hold a charge that lasts any longer than 30 minutes. I tried to get a replacement, and the only company that carries the battery is Coby themselves, and they will only replace the battery if you ship the whole unit plus a $31 money order to them. And THEN the replacement might cost another $60 on top of that! The player works fine, as long as you always have an electrical outlet or car outlet handy, but how portable is that?

Digital camera Review: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OF MONEY ON THIS LET-DOWN
Summary: 2 Stars

I was looking for a DVD player for my daughter that could be used both on her little TV in her room and on the road for trips. I liked the design of this item being a tablet style instead of a clam-shell style portable player. I had seen this Coby dvd player on other websites and, like here, it had a wide variance of reviews. Unfortunately you will have to understand that many of the positive reviews are from people who have either not had the device for very long, or have not used it very much. Since I saw that there seemed to be an issue with the devices breaking after a period of use, I decided to run mine for a "burn in" period. This meant I was going to use the heck out of it in every possible way that it would be used right off the bat and see how reliable it was. So I used it every day running two or three movies per day (on and off the battery) through it for a week and a half (I figured this would simulate several months of normal travel movie watching). I treated it with care but I played lots of dvds on it. For $100 I felt that it should be able to perform its primary function of playing dvds without breaking as long as I treated it nicely in every other way. I used commercial dvds and my own burned dvds of stuff I had created. I used it hooked to my daughters bedroom TV and while riding in the car attached to the supplied headrest holder that comes with it. It has a fantastic picture quality and the built in speakers actually sound pretty good. It comes with two sets of back-of-the-head headphones that are good too. It worked perfectly for that week and a half. Then the problems started to crop up. The same problems all of the other reviews mentioned started to happen. First I noticed that the battery was getting really really hot (not good considering what happened to the Dell Laptop batteries recently). Then it stopped playing my homemade DVDs. Then finally it stopped playing my commercial bought DVDs as well. From the get-go the front panel toggle button didn't work right to scroll through the dvd menus so I was using the supplied remote control to go through menus on all of the dvds, but I could live with that. Final Word: Don't waste your time or money on this item. The device will work great for a while then will die on you. Since it's portable it'll probably die on you at the worse time (i.e. a trip). I sent mine back and got a refund. I had even bought the 2 year Amazon warranty just in case (didn't even make it past the two week mark before it broke so the 2yr warranty wasn't even needed by far). Coby's reputation for being cheap and shoddy was proven to me with this somewhat high dollar item. I won't buy any of their products again. Buyers beware of good reviews on this item, they probably have not had theirs long enough or used it enough to have it break on them yet. It's great out of the box but soon dies a frustrating death. I gave it more than one star only because it does have an excellent picture quality, while it lasts. Unfortunately you get what you pay for. I'll end up buying a more expensive, reliable brand-name dvd player with a track record of better quality. Sorry to say that going on-the-cheap in this case is not a wise buy. You'll only be dissappointed in the end.
