Digital camera reviews of Corsair Flash Voyager 64 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive CMFUSBHC-64GBDigital camera Review: GREAT Summary: 5 StarsI HAVE HAD THIS FLASH DRIVE FOR OVER A YEAR. IT WORKS GREAT. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Digital camera Review: Hey, positive reviewers! Thanks a bunch for making me waste my money! Summary: 1 StarsWe all know that reviewing a flash drive is extremely easy. Anyone can do it. The USB key is a wonderful device, you can store almost anything on it If your DVD player is blessed with a USB port like mine is, you can watch screeners of movies from the comfort of your couch, like I have done several times.
I wrecked my other one by hitting it against my door while moving my laptop, so I picked this one up from The Source. I attempted to move a few files to it one I ripped it out of the packaging, and yes it loaded, yes it was fast. 8 Gigabytes, that automatically means it's a good device, right?
Wrong.
I suffered the same issues as Sky. My first file was about 400MB, and so for 5 seconds it transferred. And then it stopped, with some window popping up blabbing about "Parameters". But it's 8GB, Parameters shouldn't matter. So I unplugged it, and plugged it in again. Same issue. I restarted my laptop, and then tried one more time, with some window popping up saying "the file I was trying to locate could not be found".
Huh? First off I wasn't trying to locate anything, I was trying to move stuff. And it wasn't just this time. I plugged it in on different computers. Same problem.
Overall, do not waste your money on this crap. I am off to find that one my mom brought home from work that I wrecked. That was the most trustworthy USB key ever. This one defeats the purpose of USB keys.
Digital camera Review: Great Read Speeds - Terrible Write Speeds Summary: 3 StarsI probably spent about 2 months on and off reading USB flash drive reviews, looking for one to replace my Kingston Data Traveler 100 16Gb flash drive. Primarily I was looking for improved speeds as I use it for portable applications. However, due to the expense of higher quality SLC chip flash drives, I decided to try the MLC based Corsair given its very low price on Amazon.
However, just copying my files from the DT100 to the Corsair took probably half an hour (maybe about 4GB worth of data). I decided to test the 2 drives using benchmarking software, primarily HD Tune.
The Corsair achieved average read speeds of approx 28MB/s (very impressive), but average write speeds of approx 5MB/s. Given the old DT100 had faster write speeds (and only cost me about $25), I decided to contact Corsair directly.
One person told me that these speeds were about what they expected, but that the GT version would have significantly higher write speeds (approx. 18MB/s) - as yet unverified. I decided to call again to see if I got a different story: this time the guy told me that they were going to be releasing a new line of GT models, possibly next month (August 2009).
So, in summary, I returned this item - don't bother with it as the write speeds are terrible. I'm going to wait for this next line of GTs and try my luck again.
Digital camera Review: My first flash drive but I love it!!!! Summary: 5 StarsI have had this for at least a month or so. I did look online at what other people said about flash drives and thought I'd give this one a try beings this is my first. I think it's awesome!!! I'm not really a tech geek but I love stuff like this. I think it's pretty fast to put things on there. It's easier than I thought. Plug and play as they say. Anyway I have bought a new computer as my other one crashed and I lost all of my pic's,music everything. I was not a happy camper. I'm not taking anymore chances at that happening so I looked into buying a flash drive. I've also put my stuff on a few dvds also. I have no regrets at buying this and would highly suggest it to anyone looking for a flash drive. I'm eventually going to get an external drive as well. I'm not going to loose my stuff like I did before as I'm sure there are alot of people that have as well... Very Pleased with it... Thanks Amazon for selling it..
Digital camera Review: Takes a licking... Summary: 5 StarsI'll let the experts tell you how fast this thing reads and writes, etc. I'm not a tech guru and don't really care about the numbers; for whatever it's worth, it doesn't have blinding speed (I use it on both a Mac and a PC) but it gets the job done. For my money, though, this and the rest of the Corsair family of flash drives is the best product out there based on durability alone. The rubberized coating ensures that the drive won't be damaged by a simple drop from pocket to ground, and the cap is tighter than most (although I've still managed to lose both of the caps on my 2 Corsair drives in the year+ that I've had them).
Moreover, my own Corsair drives have taken some real punishment and still function. I ran my 16 gb in the clothes washer accidentally with no ill effects (so take the water resistance claims at face value), although I am using a side loader. It also took a fall while attached to a laptop, which bent the plug slightly sideways but didn't affect function at all. Impressive. Ergonomically, it's a bit wider than some flash drives owing to the rubberized outer coating, and so it can crowd out other USB components, but for the durability that coating confers I think it's worth it.
Highly recommended.
