I recently ordered a Creative express card only to have the order cancelled due to a backorder problem,I went to my local Circuitcity and purchased this sound blaster and I must say it improves built in sound on my HP greatly,Some other reviews of this product were not so good,I had some doubts but purchased it anyways,I am definately not sorry,the drivers installed no problem,you can even leave the drivers out and just let windows use the drivers from Microsoft.I am currently running Vista Ultimate on this laptop.Digital camera Review: I gave it 2 stars and want you guys to read all the reviews b4 buying..

I bought this sound card as I wanted to upgrade my Creative xi-fi. The features and the sound quality were good but it crashed my Windows XP after I changed a setting in Creative software. My laptop shut itself down and then gave me a blue screen of death. I tried downloading XP updates hoping it might fix the issue but didn't help at all. So I had to return it and keep my Creative Xi-fi. Too bad it sounded pretty good. I bought this sound card to replace the onboard sound card to see if there would be an improvement in sound quality from my new a relatively high quality stereo speaker system. The computer far exceeds the minimum specifications stated by Creative. I beleive that there was an improvement and WAS a satisfied customer.
After about 5 months use, an intermitent peeping noise started. The location and duration of the peep varies with each playing of a sound file. I have spent many hours, uninstalling, installing and re-installing a variety of drivers and the problem with the Creative card remains. The problem sound is eliminated when the Creative card is removed and uninstalled and the original onboard sound card is installed. In addition, the problem can be duplicated when the card is installed on a different computer. The speaker system is perfect when installed on a different computer without the sound card. This process tells me that the card is defective.
Creative email tech support has been incredibly poor. They do not read my emails and suggest fixes that I have clearly told them I have already tried without results. They are totally focused on the problem being with my computer and not with the card. They refuse to acknowledge the fact that the card worked perfecly for months. The computer is dedicated to music playback and does not get new software installed on it. I do not get email or surf the web on it. They refuse to acknowledge that the problem with the sound card can be duplicated when the card is connected to a different computer.
Bottomline, nothing but aggravation from a defective card and defective tech support. It would be one thing if tech support was nonexistant. That does not surprise me. Creative tech support is condecending, no help whatsoever and incredibly aggravating.

I bought this as a replacement of the Turtle Beach audio advantage microII sound card. The microII stopped outputting in anything but stereo after about a week of use(thanks amazon for the return!). So I went back to doing my hoomework and settled on this even though there were some iffy reviews. The purpose of this for me is to be able to get 5.1 surround out of my laptop for gaming. I'd like to state that for me this was NOT 5.1 out of the box, you have to install the drivers provided on the disc (also something that the microII didnt provide). I simply install the drivers skipping all of the extra software and instantly I get Dolby DTS from my laptop, this thing is great!
Long story short if you are trying to get surround sound from your notebook this is the device you're looking for, it works like a charm.
