Digital camera Review: An Improvement Over The Original

The Zen X-FI 2 looks great and sounds even better. It's easily one of the better sounding mp3 players available in my own opinion. X-FI functions gives the sound a nice boost that increases the fidelity, but at the cost of some battery life. While I haven't measured, I still get several hours of playback time out of it, and don't have to recharge more than once every few days. Depending on your use, you may need to re-charge more or less often.
The new larger display looks fantastic, but as a touchscreen it's underwhelming. Unlike the Ipod, the Zen uses a Resistive touchscreen which is much less sensitive and reactive than the capacitive touchscreens in the Ipod and some other touchscreen devices. However, there is an upside in that using this touchscreen works to reduce the cost of the player, making it much more affordable than an Ipod touch of comparable capacity.
The software can often be unresponsive as well. Fighting with the insensitive screen can be annoying enough, but then to press things, watch them light up in response, and then not doing anything..... can be even more annoying. Still, the interface is not un-usable. You'll get better at using it with practice, and use of a stylus may help as well.
The included headphones are quite good for what they are. They're worlds better than the buds that come with the ipod,. However, despite being good for what they are, what they are, is a pair of 20 dollar earbuds, and they sound like it. They pale in comparison to superior quality headphones like the Etymotic ER-6 (which I own and use with my X-Fi2).
Instead of an SD slot like on the older models, this model has a microsd slot. Also unlike the older player, the new X-FI2 can integrate media on the sd card into the player's context menu.
I haven't used the player with any video yet, but i'm told that it can be fairly picky about what types of files/formats it will play. Use the Creative Centrale software to transfer and convert your video.
Speaking of the included Centrale software, It's not that good in my opinion. It's clunky, slow, and i've had problems with the software becoming unresponsive, forcing me to kill it. You're not forced to use it however. You can use Windows Media Player, or simply drag and drop manually through Windows.
Overall and despite the many drawbacks, i'm quite happy with the player. Again, it sounds fantasic and it's the right price.
