Digital camera reviews of Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum

Digital camera Review: Amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

I am probably one of the most musically/sound impared people on the planet. I rarely notice the difference between my onboard sound systems and my sound cards. I only notice substantial jumps in sound technology. I am very reserved about getting soundcards, as I dont think I ever notice a difference between 16 channels and 40000 channels of sound. I have gone from a adlib, to a SB, to SB16, to Audigy LS and now to this card. That being said, this is probably the last card I will even pick up or need. The sound is a subsantial leap ahead of my other cards, and is amazing clear. I love the front panel for adding my headphones if I need them. I couldnt be happier with the price I paid or the product itself.

Amazing buy. I cant say enough good things. I dont speak geek about the improvements, its like art.. you know what you like, and I love this card.

Digital camera Review: Another Nvidia chipset owner with problems
Summary: 2 Stars

If you own an Nvidia chipset beware. I have a 690i and every day when I'm ready to play some games I have to cross my fingers and hope I have sound. I've tried everything under the sun but just can't get reliable compatibility. I think I'm going to finally throw in the towel and get an Asus Xonar (which are better quality cards anyway). For what it's worth, the sound quality is fantastic when you can get the thing to stop being so buggy!

Digital camera Review: Blown away by the change in sound
Summary: 5 Stars

So, after 7 years of long (and worthy) usage, I've decided to replace my antiquated SB Live. This card was a perfect follow up, because I watched the Audigy and Audigy 2 platinum's prices their whole life and they rarely changed, so I figured I'd pull the trigger now because I doubt the price will fluctuate much in the coming year.

Let me say this: the sound on this card blows away my old SB live. You really have to hear it to believe it. And, as the reviewer below mentioned, BF2 performance is amazing, as well as taking strain off my CPU.

The I/O drive on the front of my PC is the reason I bought this card actually. I use the MIDI I/O to program my gutiar amp, the mic/headphone ports are handy, the remote makes watching videos from my bed a breeze, and the other I/O ports will someday come in handy.

A great investment, and unlike a video card, it won't be outdated in 2 years to come.

Digital camera Review: Buy this.
Summary: 5 Stars

Words can not describe how awesome this card is. But, i'll do my best.

I first paired it with a Cambridge Soundworks 4.1 system i purchased in 1999. The sound was beautiful. Then I paired this card with a Logitech X-540 system. After having my roommates tell me they could hear my music on the other side of the house and shaking the windows of my room, I pleased the audiophile in me in ways you can only know if you have this card.

To further test this system, i played DOOM 3 and Half Life 2. After hearing my "opponents" walk across infront of me and "hear" them "walk from backleft to left to front to right to backright" I fully accepted the fact that yes, this was a worthy purchase.

To further test the Soundblaster X-Fi, i plugged my guitar straight into it and started playing and recording. After hearing the playback, i thought to myself "why should i ever pay for recording again when i can do it myself?"

This card, the Soundblaster X-Fi platinum, goes above and beyond anything i could ever imagine. Creative really out-did themselves with this one.

Digital camera Review: Buying this card is a crap shoot
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm sure this card is excellent for some people, but the complaints from nvidia motherboard owners holds true for me; I have tried 2 different amd/nvidia motherboards, and in both cases I had horrible crashing/freezing problems. These cards are expensive and I think unless you can verify ahead of time that the card will work in your system you are taking a big gamble.
