Digital camera reviews of Creative Zen Stone 1 GB MP3 Player (Pink)Digital camera Review: Do not buy the pink one Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered one of these after reading the reviews of the black stone trying to decide if it was a good product. I have had good luck with other Zen players so I thought this would be a good buy. I got from the people who reviewed the black stone that this was a great piece of equipment at a great value. Well, maybe it is if you buy the black one, but the pink one is a piece of junk. The first one (yes, I returned it for another one) would not charge at all, would not turn on and generally refused to work. I returned it to amazon thinking the one I received was defective, until I had the same problem with the second pink stone I received. At this point I do not want another stone and I will be looking for another mp3 player.
Digital camera Review: Give it to kids and don't feel like a bad parent. Summary: 5 Stars
With a 6 year old wanting to keep up with classmates this is a wonderful little MP3/WMA player with a great volume limiter. Fill it with Hannah and High School Musical and let them go. Also great for digital children's books.
Digital camera Review: Great Buy for Price Summary: 5 Stars
I got the Pink one for Christmas. It worked perfectly. The headphones that came with it had EXCELLENT quality. This was a very good mp3 player for the price. The battery life on mine was about 15-20 hours depending on the length of songs. Only thing I didn't like about it was no screen! So i have since got one with a screen!
Digital camera Review: I must concur with those who never got it to work Summary: 1 Stars
I have the black one, and this thing has been a frustration from the beginning. I have never got it to work. My PC recognizes it, but gives me an I/O error. Media Player refuses to recognize it. I have never got it to play, and can't figure out why. Now it does not turn on at all, and I figure it is a dead battery. It could be my problem, but with nothing but a blinking light to go by - how can you tell what is the problem?
Digital camera Review: Junk. Summary: 1 Stars
I see from other reviews that it might just be the quality of the pink one (as they say, get the black one? or just save the extra for the iPod Shuffle). Anyways, it worked nicely just about long enough for the general warranty to run out. Since then it's had major issues with the connection between the earbud jack and the player. Sometimes pressing it in *really* hard helps. Sometimes it needs to be at a certain angle. My kid sister had a different brand of cheap mp3 player for a while and experienced similar problems.
Also, the lowest volume setting is still kinda loud in a totally silent environment. I found this ironic considering the rabid "protect your ears" warnings that came with the documentation. And when you turn it down beyond the lowest setting, the sound cuts out completely, which can be confusing the first time it happens.
Moral of the story: you get what you pay for. Save for something nicer. Or at the very least, don't get this color.
Edit: I figured out why the sound was going out, the earbuds that come with the player are garbage. After trial-and-error hunting around for something that wasn't completely awful, I came across the Sony Mdr-E10Lp/Pink Headphones -Fashion Earbuds (Pink) which I liked. Around the same time I got Sony MDR-V150 Monitor Series Headphones with Reversible Earcups and realized... that this player puts out great sound with those! The battery life isn't affected much by the extra power needed. Yeah, the self-conscious might not like wandering around in public with large headphones on, but I tell you what... I love it and it is SO worth it. I'm not changing the one star review on this player, though. I wish I'd saved for something more reliable, as I appear to have gotten lucky on mine not dying yet as others complain the thing dies all over the place (the black one too, according to a reply to this review).
