Digital camera reviews of Cyber Acoustics Portable Digital Docking Speaker for iPod (Black)

Digital camera Review: 95 Percent great
Summary: 4 Stars

**Update**

Cause of the static was on-board wifi. Disabled wifi and the static went away.

Works with the touch 2g on 3.1.2 and charges it while it plays. It also charges it when the unit is turned "off".
There is a rocker switch in the back for "true" on/off. It has several steps for the volume control, no remote, There's no Next/Previous buttons. While the unit is off there's short bursts of static sound at random intervals (and no EMI to cause it). Comes with a AC/DC adapter so you can save your batteries. Havent tried using batteries yet, but you have the option to. It gets loud enough for the office, and to rock out to while in the shower, but not loud enough for a mid-sized party. I gave it 4 stars because of the static, when its playing it plays just fine. to fix the static issue, I leave it unplugged when its not in use. I would recommend this product, but only if they knew about the static issue--although, it might just be mine.

Digital camera Review: A Good Value Option
Summary: 3 Stars

Bought these speakers to replace a set from Altec Lansing (iM3) which I've since worn out. The sound quality is decent, but is noticeably inferior to the higher-priced Altec Lansing (iM3) or JBL alternatives.

I also can't help but compare these speakers' design with that of the iM3, which neatly folds into a compact book shape - which is easy to tuck into a bag. These speakers have a carrying pouch as well, but the shape of the product isn't as compact as my previous set.

Finally, I have to note that the plastic used for the product's body looks and seems cheap. At around $30, I guess you get what you pay for.

Digital camera Review: A Welcome Accessory for the iPod Touch
Summary: 5 Stars

I have bought this system for use with an iPod Touch. I have had it a day and am pleased with the performance. My usage is as a speaker set for bedside listening. I no longer am disenchanted by the tinny sound of the iPod's speaker and can listen to music or radio, with pleasure, streamed through my iPod Touch. I have WiFi and this set-up enables me to enjoy the media I want in a way that is quite pleasant. I have used it to listen to Coast to Coast AM as well as stream Pandora stations and both performed well. I was pleased by the volume I was able to set without distortion. I did try the battery powered operation first, and it worked well. I have the system bedside and running off of the included power adapter. It works well, no hum or other audible feedback. I am pleased with this purchase, at a price point under $36 total with tax and free shipping. I feel this unit is allowing me to get unrealized value from my iPod Touch at a price that is not oppressive.

I find the unit easy to use. An item of note is that if fiddling with the iPod Touch power button it can cause the iPod to unseat from the pins. I remedied this by turning off my screen saver in the iPod touch options. Now I do not need to hit the button to see the screen. Also of note, the unit comes with one of the adapters already in place and that had to be removed before the correct sized adapter for my iPod could be inserted. There were no instructions that made this clear, and I was trying to fit one adapter on top of another. After taking a moment to review, I sorted it out and removed the adapter in the docking bay and placed the one that was sized for my unit.

There is a little play back and forth with the iPod unit so I do not see this as suitable for mobile operation. The iPod is not well supported in the docking station, but the docking is adequate for my usage. A gentle hand is required when operating the iPod when it is in the docking station so as not to jar it off the pins. Because of this sensitivity to a firm touch I docked one star in ease of use.

Sound quality I gave five stars because I think for the money and size of the unit the sound is superior to past experiences with clock radios and such. It is not a home stereo or boom box so I am not judging the sound against such.

Construction quality is fine, the design is a bit lacking due to the previously mentioned docking issue. I gave five stars because it seems solidly built. There is an issue for me with the brightness of the blue led that shines through the plastic at the right side base of the iPod well. It is very bright. So bright that I took a white label, colored it black, and stuck it over the area. It shines through, though much muted. It is now at a level I find comfortable.

value for my money I gave five stars as well. I am pleased with this purchase overall, and find it fills a niche and need I have had for some time at a price point that I find acceptable. A major selling point for me was that this unit can use an included AC adapter. I had no need to add another bottomless well of battery consumption. The system also charges my iPod while it is docked, but only in AC operation. It does not charge the iPod when running from batteries. This prolongs the operational time of the unit, but also prevents the unit from being an emergency power supply for the iPod. I found that to be acceptable. If I have anything to add after a month of usage I will make an addendum. If the unit continues to function without difficulty, I'll likely leave this review as is.

Cyber Acoustics Portable Digital Docking Speaker for iPod (Black)

Digital camera Review: A good cheap speaker system
Summary: 4 Stars

I was looking for something inexpensive to listen to my ipod without headphones. While the product description says it will play up to Nano 4G, I had no problem with my Nano 5G.
Sound was surprisingly good from such a small, cheap system, so much so that I have no intention of buying anything larger or more expensive. Deep base, crisp highs, strong mid-range. I would not hesitate to recommend the CA portable system to anyone who wants good sound at a bargain basement price.

Digital camera Review: A good value
Summary: 4 Stars

I am new to iPod and have nothing to compare this to. Needed something to play my music and charge the device. The price was right so I ordered it. Have been very satisfied and would definitely recommend this docking speaker.
