Digital camera Review: Bad Disc Error - possible fix

BAD DISC ERROR - possible fix
After about 8 months just like the other reviewer it stopped working.
I kept getting bad disc error on a new DVD I bought. I tried good discs that worked before but now got the same Bad Disc error.
This is not the first time I had problems loading. Previously, unplugging and plugging it in again sometimes corrected the problem.
This time after two weeks of Bad Disc errors, I was about to toss it when I decided what the heck, I'll check inside to see if it's dirty or something.
FIRST I UNPLUGGED THE UNIT.
I removed the 6 screws holding the cover. You may have to pull the sides out a bit if it catches to lift it off.
With my expertise knowledge. *eyeroll* I nudged the lense mechanism. It apparently slides to read the discs.
I plugged the DVD in and loaded a disc again to see what happens. The lense slid under the tray and started reading the disc. I'll take the elation of dumb luck over the satisfaction calculated knowledge any day! lol
So hopefully this will last a little longer. But at least I can use it again for now ...
I am downrating it to 2 stars solely on the bad disc error. The viewing quality and performance is decent and covered by other reviewers.

I really can't say much about this DVD player, since I couldn't get it to work at all... After trying for several days with several different DVDs, I decided to return it and get a refund. I got this DVD Player for Christmas and like the small size and light weight. It is extra easy to move betweeen TV's. However, it freezes up and won't work very often and skips on DVD's that otherwise work perfect on my other players. I'm sorry to see that a few people have had negative experiences with this unit. I found it at Best Buy for only $35-, seemed like they were blowing them out as a loss leader just to get traffic in the store for the holidays. I wasn't even looking for a DVD player, but a small progressive scan player for $35-, wow...this I had to have and try. When I took it out of the box I was surprised how small the unit was, felt like just a few pounds and looked more like an external dvd or cdr burner. So, did it work and what was the picture quality like???YES, I've never had a problem playing any DVD with this player. The progressive scan also works,but I haven't extensively tested it. The component video output is excellent. At this price point and size there have to be some compromises, so don't expect digital sound output (no optical or coax sound outputs), but all 3 video formats are available (S-Video, Component, and Composite).
For the money you can't go wrong. I haven't tried burning a CDR with all my photos, but I'm sure it will work. I still look at the unit and remember the days when a remote control cost $35 to replace, and here they throw in the DVD player. I'd have to say try it and see if it works for your purposes.

I've had this DVD player for over two years now and it has worked perfectly even with the scratched up DVDs you get from a rental store. I have never put a disc in this player and it not play. Not only is it a wonderful player but it can be set to region free this was a very much appreciated added bonus for me because I buy a lot of Region 2 DVDs. If you are looking for a cheap, very good, and region free DVD player this one is the right choice. The picture is great, the sound is great and its performance is wonderful.
