Digital camera reviews of D-Link DGS-2205 5-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop SwitchDigital camera Review: Awesome but not necessarily compatible with all devices. Summary: 4 Stars
I have this and the 8 port version. I love the gigabit speed and the energy saving features. However, my LG LED TV has similar technology and the two devices often cause some confusion as they both seem to "turn on and off" when the TV is first turned on(for the switch it is the port and for the tv it is the network card). I understand what is happening and they seem to "figure it out" after several seconds of the TV asking for a wired network to be setup almost every time it is turned on. I could see how this would be annoying to some and confusing to others. Overall both devices work well with all other equipment I have Xbox 360s, Desktop PCs, Blueray player, etc. I don't use the Internet features on the TV and will only occasionally hook up the wired interenet as a work around.
Digital camera Review: Been working great for 9 months Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this back in Feb of 2009 and it's been working just great ever since. I just plugged it in and it just started working. I have my cable router plugged into one side and three PCs hooked into the other. One of these PCs is a fileserver running Windows Home Server and the other two are client PCs, one running XP and the other Windows 7. File transfers between the PCs are very quick. There is never a hiccup listening to music, streaming video or looking at photos. There is also no issue ripping CDs or DVDs directly from a client PC to the network shares on the fileserver. All of my client PCs point their My Documents directories to the WHS without issue. I have iTunes pointed out the the network share too. It's fast enough I can't tell much of a difference between local access and network access.
I haven't had any issues with the switch getting hot. It runs nice and cool.
The only thing I would have done different if I had to do it over again was choose the 8-port switch!
Digital camera Review: Best value for money Switch Summary: 5 Stars
I use this with a Gigabit router (WRT 320) for creating the Cluster computing. It gives the the 1000Mb/s bandwidth and with cat6 cabling there are no errors in the packets transmitted.
If you are looking for unmanaged switch dont even think about any thing else.
There is one drawback if you connect a 10/100 Mb/s connection to this one it fallback to lower speeds. Solution buy 2 switches one 10/100 and another 10/100/1000 and dedicate them to respective connection. After all this is a cheap (but good quality)switch rite?
Digital camera Review: Bought two Summary: 5 Stars
What can I say?
I bought two to transmit audio, video, TV, Telephone and home automation at 1 Gbit speeds within my LinuxMCE home network. Plug them in and forget about them. setup is that simple I don't even remember doing more than plugging tham in and the watching the lights flash as each CAT 5e cable was plugged in - Green light 1 Gbit uplink, yellow 100 Mbit uplink. I think they have been on for about 3 month now without rest or reboot 24/7.
Digital camera Review: Compact, Stable and Fast Network Switching Summary: 5 Stars
Having only one wired ethernet feed in my home theater location I was looking for a fast yet compact switch to connect my various components. The D-LINK 2205 satisfied on all counts.
My music, photo and video library files all reside on a NAS server in another location in my home. Internet access is via a hybrid (wired & wireless) router also located in another part of my home. Wireless hi-def feed performance was less than exemplary so I decided to opt for an economical high speed wired switch.
The D-LINK was easy to install as all it took was connecting the various media devices to the switch and the switch to the ethernet feed in my home theater location. The switch immediately configured itself and each component interface was clearly displayed via the front panel interface. The components all accommodate 1000bps streaming so speed of hi-def transmission was no longer an issue. The switch has been in operation for a couple of weeks now and I'm delighted to report its operation has been flawless.
It's small physical size allows for easy placement and the led front panel display is useful for monitoring connection and interface speed provided one is not more than 10 feet away. I was able to take advantage of a sale and rebate on the unit so my cost was only $19.99 but even at twice the price I'd highly recommend this device.
