Digital camera reviews of D-Link DWA-652 Xtreme N Wireless Notebook Adapter Draft

Digital camera Review: Didn't work
Summary: 2 Stars

My rating for this D-Link adapter, might be a little unfair.
I have used and am using D-Link products and love them.
I have upgraded my network to 80211n and wanted to do the same with my laptop. So I ordered the DWA-652.
The first problem I encountered after installing the driver software, was after the reboot. It changed the way Windows XP Pro opened, and I was unable to connect to my network.
E-mailed D-link. They had me download latest update, do the un-install and install update.
Windows opened properly, but didn't fix connection.
After 4 more D-link attempts to resolve problem, they stopped responding.
I re-installed my D-link WNA-2330 and everything worked fine.
This issue will not prevent me from buying D-link in the future and will always recommend their products to others.

I can't say enough good about AMAZON.COM. They are a wonderful site to do business.
I have bought sdhc cards, cameras, and printers and more. Always with satisfaction.
Their return site was flawless.
Another satisfied and future return customer.

Digital camera Review: Does not seem to like Vista
Summary: 1 Stars

Installing it went fine, connected to my network smoothly. Then I noticed one of my two CPU cores was just sitting at 100% utilization. As soon as I disabled the card it would drop down to near 0% again. Website is near useless for this product, one Beta driver (that wouldn't install at all), no knowlege base entries, etc. I suspect d-link is just slow at getting vista enabled drivers out. Sent an e-mail off to D-link, but I'm probably going to send it back.

Digital camera Review: Does not support 5Mhz only 2.4
Summary: 3 Stars

It's kinda silly to have a adapter for that that is over 60 dollars that is supposed to be so great that only supports 2.4Mhz. Only buy this if you don't have 5mhz band to choose from and won't because you can get a better one that supports the clearer 5Mhz band for less that does the same with 2.4Mhz its kinda sad they don't specify in larger print that it is only for 2.4Mhz I would of not bought it for so much to use with my new router.
It works fine.
But the added software does not work well with the windows zero config. I recommend using zero config and the install cd software for the driver which you can get updated from dlink

Digital camera Review: Does what I expected and I'm happy......
Summary: 4 Stars

This product did exactly what I needed it to do. Yes, I bought it for a limited application but I couldn't be happier with the result. Right out the box it installed quickly and easily. I was up and running with no hassles at 3 times the speed. My alternative was to run 150 feet of Cat-5 cable under the house and get 1/3 of the speed I ended up with. I have an old laptop that I've dedicated to stream video from my home office (where I have the xtreme n wireless router from d-link) to our "TV" room (where the laptop is attached to our bigscreen and surround sound). Great performance. We're very very happy with the result!

Digital camera Review: Excellent speed for wireless. Works flawlessly with amazing range!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this wireless cardbus adapter to use with my old (Media Center) laptop and was happily surprised that it consistently provides a 300 Mbps signal at a significant distance from the base unit, much farther than anything I previously have used and I have been using wireless routers since they first came out. I have never been happier with any wireless router and card as the D-Link Xtreme N Wireless as neither the router or adapter have failed me once and have provided astounding speeds. I purchased the Xtreme N router, cardbus adapter, and PC card when this first came out. D-Link has upgraded all drivers so now the cards work with all versions of Windows, not that I have had any problems of that sort. This is an excellent card that provides some of the fastest speed available and is well worth the cost. This has never slowed (any of) my computers as some other reviewers have claimed so they may have some other underlying related problem. If you are in the market for a speedy router and card I highly recommend this unit. It is flash upgradeable once the N standard is finally set in 2009 so you won't have to buy another unit when the N standard is finalized.
