Digital camera reviews of D-Link DWL-G730AP AirPlus G High Speed 2.4GHz 802.11g Wireless Pocket Router/APDigital camera Review: Dead on Receipt Summary: 1 Stars
The D-Link DWL-G730AP router was dead on receipt. I have returned the unit to D-Link and nearly a month has passed with no new router and no word from them. Definitely recommend against buying this item
Digital camera Review: Dlink wireless travel router Summary: 4 Stars
This router is great if you're a frequent traveler. All components fit neatly in a small zippered case. Setup is fairly easy with the included CD.
Now when I get to my hotel, I'm not tied to the desk/ethernet cable for internet. You basically create your own hot spot so you can surf wifi throughout your room. Great product, especially for the price.
Digital camera Review: Doesn't work as a repeater Summary: 4 Stars
This router has multiple useful modes, but repeater is not one of them. While traveling, I needed the ability to set the router up where it could hear the hostel wireless and repeat it so we could use our laptops in our room instead of standing at the end of the hall. No dice.
I had also been hoping to use it as a repeater when I got home. I'll either have to run a wire or buy something else.
Digital camera Review: Don't Buy this Product Summary: 1 Stars
I had hoped that the Pocket Router would connect my Samsung DVD player to the internet. It may have worked, but I could not get past the first step of the set-up i.e., activate the router.
My computer could not connect to the IP address, given in manual, that would activate the router. I called technical support twice and learned that I had to synchronize the pocket router's settings with the settings for my home's wireless network. And when I travel, I must repeat this synchronization with the hotel's WiFi network. I spent about two hours trying to get the thing to work when I decided that my time was worth more than the 40.00 I paid for it. So I returned it to Amazon for a refund.
If you are looking for a device that will connect your TV to the internet, hold off until next year. According to some previews I received for the Consumer Electronic Show, which will be held in January 2011, Google and some others will introduce an inexpensive device that will access the internet from a modem (wired, wireless or via your home's electrical outlets), and connect to your TV via a HMDI port. The device comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse and will provide HD video with 5.1 surround audio. As internet TV advances, I expect that viewers would drop their cable or satellite services.
