Digital camera reviews of D-Link EBR-2310 Ethernet Broadband Router

Digital camera Review: D-Link router
Summary: 5 Stars

This router is perfect for my needs. I wanted a small unit, easy to install, that would provide extra protection from on-line intruders. Plus it provides port access for other PCs to my internet connection if needed.

Digital camera Review: DON'T BUY THIS PIECE OF BLEEP!!! DOESN'T WORK!!! THEIR OWN TECH PERSON EVEN ADMITTED THIS!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this D-Link EBR-2310 router on Amazon, and spent several days trying to get it to work properly. I was determined to make it work, and spent about 12 hours total messing with it, re-starting the modem, re-starting computers, installing and re-installing drivers and software, calling D-Link tech support, etc.

We got the router to 'work' in that we had Internet connectivity on all three computers several times during this process. But every single time... as soon as all three of us starting browsing the web, it would slow Internet usage to a crawl, start showing page errors and kicking different ones of OFF the Internet.

After I'd spent about 10 hours total (over several days) messing with this, during one of my calls to D-Link tech support, I asked the guy if they got a lot of calls like this about this router. HER SAID YES AND ACTUALLY TOLD ME THIS ROUTER WILL ONLY RUN 1-2 COMPUTERS ONLINE!!! He said the other ports should be used for cameras or printers, etc., and that if I wanted to run three computers online, I'd need the D-Link DIR-655.

After ordering this thing in good faith - believing the product description which said it could handle up to four computers online - I was livid! I'd wasted hours of my life and lost productivity for 2 workers, all because of D-LINK'S FALSE ADVERTISING!

I called D-LINK customer service (after calling tech support) and they essentially accused me of lying about what their tech guy told me. I became more livid. Then they set me up on a phone call with one of their so-called engineers. He said their tech guy was wrong as well - that is, the guy who gets all the calls about how this piece of bleep works in the real world didn't know what he was talking about. Right.

D-Link offered to exchange it, but I'd already read others online who reported that even after an exchange, the replacement piece of bleep worked just as bad. In light of their BLATANT FALSE ADVERTISING which led me to waste 12 hours of my life and lose income from two workers' lost productivity, I demanded they send me the DIR-655 as a replacement, and was stone-walled.

Two days later, I went to Radio Shack and bought the Linksys Wireless-N Router (WRT160N-RM ), which I hadn't realized ALSO HAS 4 WIRED PORTS IN THE BACK, which is exactly why I bought the other piece of bleep in the first place. (I wanted wired, as opposed to wireless.) I hooked up Lynksys N Router to the same three computers, using the same cords, modem, etc., installed the software on the main computer, and then tested the netowrk. We had all three computers browsing online, and the router performed flawlessly, as it has ever since.

D-LINK NEEDS TO STOP LYING ABOUT THIS PRODUCT. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH THREE COMPUTERS ONLINE. AND THEY NEED SERIOUS HELP IN THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. ACCUSING CUSTOMERS OF LYING ABOUT WHAT THEIR OWN TECH GUY SAID, DENYING THE REALITY ABOUT THE PIECE OF BLEEP THEY'RE SELLING, AND TREATING THE CUSTOMER LIKE THE WHOLE PROBLEM IS THEIR FAULT IS WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!! I DESPISE THIS COMPANY.

Update: A few days after I posted this review, I got a call from a customer service manager with D-Link. He saw my review above and offered to send a different model router (the DIR-625, which also has bad reviews - not the DIR-655) at no cost - and made sure to ask if I'd edit this review after I got the router... I received it but didn't bother trying it, since the one I bought from a local Radio Shack is not refundable (if not defective) anyway. But I'm updating the review as I agreed... My opinion of this company, their service, and their products has changed one iota.

Digital camera Review: Delivers What It Promises
Summary: 5 Stars

My router had just failed and I was apprehensive about ordering another and having to go through a bothersome installation. However, my experience installing this router could not have been better. I just followed the instructions and I was on-line again in no time. An excellent wired router for a simple network.

Digital camera Review: Did just what I needed it too.
Summary: 4 Stars

We needed something to allow us to share our computer internet connection with our Xbox 360. This did the job perfectly although you do need a ethernet cable to connect it to the xbox it was way cheaper then buying the things you need for a wireless connection. Good alternative for a penny pincher like me.

The router is easy to set up and works fine, as advertised.
I use it as a router only, not as part of a Lan Network.
