Digital camera reviews of D-Link Wireless 108AG Gaming Adapter

Digital camera Review: Difficult setup
Summary: 3 Stars

I had great difficulty setting up the parameters for AT&T wireless, very frustrating. Now that it is configured it has been working fine. The distance is a little short though.

Digital camera Review: Does not work with DGL-4300 with latest firmware.
Summary: 1 Stars

I picked this up on sale to use as a bridge from the garage to my D-Link DGL-4300. With the latest firmware on the 4300 (1.8) the 3420 will not connect in WPA mode, all it does is reboot every 20 seconds. D-Link supports answer was to either select WEP mode or downgrade the firmware in the 4300 to version 1.6. also the interface on the 3420 is not compatible with Firefox, you have to use IE to configure.

Digital camera Review: Good when it works...
Summary: 2 Stars

I have two of these devices. They have to be configured through a web-only setup, which is a bit of a drag. I am using WPA encryption. The first one works great. The second one I cannot get correctly set up for love nor money; not sure if it's a different revision of the hardware or what. (I bought it later than the first.)

Some notable glitches:
- you can save your configuration, but if you try to load it again you get "CFG checksum error.", i.e., it doesn't work.
- there is a wizard but it doesn't consider the possibility of WPA encryption.
- the user interface is truly terrible; e.g., except for the wizard you cannot set the channel.
- the latest version of the firmware doesn't work with the XBox360 or WPA at all -- even though I'm using a D-Link DGL-4300 router.
Update: I eventually got it to work. Here is what I did.
1) Changed the password on the router
2) Changed the password on the DGL-3420 -- nope still didn't work
3) Changed them both back... and suddenly, they worked.

I'm not sure _why_ it worked, but it did. I know they were getting the same passwords because I was copying and pasting from a text file. I know that I changed it back to exactly what it was before, because other devices on the network didn't have to be reconfigured (beyond resetting active connections).

Still not the kind of thing I'm looking for in a product.

When 802.11n stabilizes a bit more and I buy new equipment, it will NOT be D-Link.

Digital camera Review: Great Adapter
Summary: 4 Stars

This adapter works wonderfully! Struggled for a few hours but once I got in touch with D-Link support and discovered my D-Link Wireless Router needed its Firmware updated. Once this was done then the device came up immediately.

Be careful to have your wireless routers firmware current BEFORE trying to connect this device to your wireless network!

Digital camera Review: Great Price, Simple Set-Up!
Summary: 5 Stars

I hooked this up to my XBox 360 straight after receiving it. My XBox recognized it right away, and all I had to do was a simple configuration on the XBox Network Settings page and I was connected to my Linksys WRT54G. It honestly took me longer to open up the plastic packaging than it did to hook up to my network. There was no manual configuration of the adapter or software installation involved. Others have complained about being unable to connect in WAP mode, but I haven't had a single issue with WAP enabled (I have H/W version A1 and F/W version 1.02). Not a single dropout nor a need to reboot since owning this. The only negative is the bright blue lights on the front. They are very bright and a bit distracting, but definitely something I can live with. Price was a high point when compared to the standard adapter available for the XBox 360--about 1/2 that of the other one. I highly recommend this adapter for a great XBox Live experience. Edit: Due to a change in ISP and network configuration, I've decided to go with a hardwired connection for my XBox for a better online experience, so I decided to try this adapter on my Samsung BluRay player. Hooked it up, configured the Samsung and was connected in no time. Works fine with Netflix and YouTube video streaming and Pandora music streaming, and a firmware update was downloaded with no problems. If you are looking to use this wireless adapter for something other than a gaming system, this is a solid choice.
