Digital camera reviews of DICE iTPA-220 iPod Tube Amplifier SystemDigital camera Review: A little bit wow, A little bit Duh. Summary: 2 Stars
Ok, lets start positive. The sound is just amazing for the price. AH MAY ZING!
The main unit is a tad on the cheap. The plastic looks cheap and the IR port looks like someone jammed it in there and wedged it in place with more white plastic. Sigh..., I'm glad I got it discounted. If the tubes were not so much fun to look at I would have never noticed the ugly mediocre build quality. Much like dating an ugly partner, just dim the lights.
Wiring is mildly annoying as I cannot slap on some full size monster cables and add it to component audio in my home. I am also a bit disappointed that I cannot replace the cheap thin speaker wires with much longer/thicker wires.
The last major drawback is The unit does not charge the current iPod or iPhone products. Seriously? You couldn't buy the right cable from the electronics supplier? I just bought one with the intent of replacing it when my warranty is up, it cost me $.67 retail.
So if all you care about is sound and pretty lights, this is the toy for you. Thumbs down on looks and major bummer it's not mod friendly. When my warranty is up I'll be taking out the soldering iron and buying some nice Cherry from the local woodworking store.
Summary of DICE iTPA-220 iPod Tube Amplifier SystemThe iPod tube amplifier system fills your home or office with true audiophile, rich and warm quality sound. When placed into the iPod docking tray, it charges the iPod allowing endless hours of listening to your favorite music. The amplifier system has an auxiliary input for additional audio devices such as a computer or any MP3 players. It also features a video output for use with 5th generation Video iPod models. The speakers feature a bass reflex port to increase bass response. The built in 2x20 Watt solid state amplifier, the 4? mid/bass driver and the 1? dome tweeter creates a wide dynamic range for an enhanced music quality. The dual 6N3 tubes in the preamplifier gives the listener the warmest sound and the clearest highs ever heard from an iPod docking station. The ?warmth? and ?richness? typically associated with ?valve sound? comes from the presence of 2nd order distortion smoothing the output soundwave. The unit comes with a remote control having volume control, mute, next/previous track, play and pause functions. The tube preamplifier creates a more natural sound as opposed to the often harsh, dry sound of digital audio. Experience for yourself the sound that others are talking about.
