I bought this for my wife. I got her a touch for her birthday and left it up to her to purchase a case and several months later, the touch is still flopping around in her purse naked as can be. She said that she had gone out to look at some cases in the stores and found the prices to be outrageous. I did some looking myself and found the same.
The case allows you full access to the screen and protects the screen well and offers good protection when dropped off a table or dresser. It even a has a little pocket which would seem ideal for a small microfiber cloth. It may not be your final case but it is a good inexpensive start.

After searching high and low for a folio style case for my new iPod Touch, I was thrilled to see that DLO was offering a nice, padded leather case for the Touch. I have purchased DLO cases for my iPod Nano (1st gen), and for my daughter's Sadisk Sansa e260 MP3 player. DLO really makes nice cases for MP3 players. This new DLO HipCase Folio for iPod Touch is very soft and padded. The magnet closures for the flip cover are a very nice touch. The belt clip is built on the case and is very slim; unlike those bulky, cheap plastic clips like so many other manufacturers use. The plasic clips break easily and make the cases stick out from your belt far too much. The iPod Touch fits in this case perfectly, and all of the ports and buttons line up just as they should. You don't have to take the MP3 player out of the case to charge it or for anything else. It provides the right amount of protection without adding an ulgy, bulky look to the sleek, thin design of the player. I highly recommend this case to everyone with an iPod Touch! I relied heavily on the reviews for this item before I purchased it. I wanted something for my iPod touch that protected it, but didn't change its functionality. The dlo HipCase is an incredible product that does everything right. It is attractive, easy to use and provides protection and easy enough access to my iPod.
There are two benefits to the HipCase that I don't recall reading in the other reviews. First, the case's design helps overcome one of the "flaws" people have talked about when reviewing the iPod touch. With a traditional iPod, one could easily manipulate the click wheel to change songs, lower volume and pause play without looking at it. The touch features of the new iPods can make this difficult and unpreditctable. However, the HipCase helps this along. The bottom edge of the "window" provides a guide for your finger, making it easier to unlock the slide and even pause or change tracks without looking.
Also, if you have a radio or clock that can use an iPod, you may know that the thickness of traditional iPod cases, such as those by iSkin, make it very difficult for the iPod to stay docked without falling out, so difficult in fact that you stop using that function of the appliance. It is so easy to remove the iPod from the case that you'll feel like you have a new clock or radio.
I also found no difficulty tapping the edges of the iPod as some other reviewer have stated.
Some reviewers have stated that they were able to store their cleaning cloth in the little pocket provided on the flipup part of the case. I found it difficult to reliably get the cloth in the pocket unfolded. When folded, the thickness of the cloth prevented the magnet from connecting well. This is a minor inconvenience given the many benefits I have found in this product. Don't hesitate to buy it - and buy it from Amazon - elsewhere it costs twice as much!

FYI : the 1G in the title indicates 1st Generation iPod Touch - not a 1gig. A second generation iPod Touch was released in Sept 2008.
I use this case on my iPod Touch and love it. It fits snuggly but not roughly. The front "flap" protects the screen wonderfully and allows easy access to all your controls. The openings at the bottom line up perfectly with all access points. You can charge your Touch without having to remove it from the case ( directly with the connector cable, I do not use a cradle ). The headphone jack is easily accessed as well.
The padding, though not overdone or bulky, has protected my prized Touch during a fall that I was sure had doomed it to uselessness. Not so - it was unscathed, thanks to this great case.
I can highly recommend this item, it's a perfect accessory.
My only exception to this being the most perfect case would be - to this and ALL iPod Touch cases, is that there is no where to store your headphones. I leave mine plugged in and wrap the cord around the case, securing the flap shut. Works for me.
