Have a recent HPDV6000 notebook computer (running WinXP Pro) with no parallel port and a good old HP multifunction laser 3150 that has only parallel interface.
The good news - this product actually works (compared to another Sabrent that I couldn't get to work) - at least some of the time in some instances:
This adapter WILL NOT WORK if:
1) It is connected to a USB hub - powered or unpowered, doesn't matter - Windows reports an 'unknown device' if it's plugged into a hub.
2) The printer is 'ON' when the adapter is plugged into the computer (whereupon it will try and install drivers which it can't)
The only way I've gotten this to work is
a) plug the adapter into a built-in USB port with the attached parallel printer powered OFF
b) IMMEDIATELY after the ding-dong of Windows recognizing a new plugged-in USB device, turn the printer power on. (If you wait too long, the printing may not work).
2* because it's so tricky to get it to work, and only works in some conditions - not at all what I expect from USB....
