Digital camera reviews of Dell Axim X51v - Handheld - Windows Mobile 5.0 - 3.7" color TFT ( 480 x 640 ) - Bluetooth, Wi-FiDigital camera Review: Dell Axim X51v for GPS and Internet Summary: 4 Stars
I use my Dell Axim X51v almost exclusively for GPS and some internet. I use it with the TomTom Navigator 5 software and a third party bluetooth GPS locator. The screen is perfect for GPS. This makes more sense to me than buying a GPS-only device.
I also use it with my Motorola V551 bluetooth cell phone to get internet access and real-time traffic updated for my GPS maps through Cingular at $20 per month.
There are so many possiblities with this device. And, it is very fast.
The only downside I can think of is that the original battery only last a few hours per charge.
Digital camera Review: Dell Axim has both style and substance Summary: 4 Stars
This was a great product from Dell. Too bad they discontinued making the model. It has everything you could want in a PDA and more. I believe a lot of the cell phone companies use both the idea and concepts of the Dell Axim to shape their own product. Overall A+...
Digital camera Review: Dell axim X51v Summary: 4 Stars
Good item. So far, I am very pleased with it, and it is much cheaper than buying a fancy phone that you need special plan, etc. for. Battery life is really not as bad as everyone makes it to be.
Digital camera Review: Design flaws mar otherwise nice device Summary: 2 Stars
I really like this pda, but due to some irritating design flaws, I can't recommend it. The buttons can be too easily pressed accidentally. You need to be really careful how you grasp it when you remove it from it's cradle or you will activate things that you don't wish to. I've had Palm pda's for years and never had this issue. Also, Dell (apparently) wants a monopoly on all it's parts, so you can't even purchase an extra stylus in an office supply store. Switching the battery seems to result in a soft reset.
Digital camera Review: Don't Expect Much From Dell Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered one of these things about five months ago; biggest mistake of my life. Problems started from the date of order, which should have indicated what I was getting into. Customer service reps were slow in responding and answered questions I hadn't asked. At one point they tried to advise me that they cancelled my order and that it needed to be placed once again. They had not cancelled the order and I did get what I asked for about nine weeks later. Dell processing has to be the slowest in the industry.
The only time this thing ever completely worked was the first time I used it. Since then I've kept our network administrators busy researching the myriad of problems that I'd experienced. I shouldn't have to have six hours of maintenance done just to drive the thing for one hour. It would also mysteriously dump data out of memory, quit synching with my primary computer system, and exhibit some other rather bizarre and unorthodox functions from time to time. Now, it has quit working altogether. So, today I did what I should have done in the first place--order a Palm. They do the same thing, are much less expensive, I can expect real customer service, and, most importantly, I can expect it to work and keep on ticking. I'll never buy another Dell product again.
