Digital camera Review: Background noise aplenty

I recently picked up a boombox at Sprawlmart, plugged it in at work, and lo and behold, there is a faint but noticable high-pitched noise (sounds a little like my ears are ringing). At higher volumes, it gets drowned out, but this product has been out long enough that it should have been fixed by now - I'm an engineer and I can't believe that they would continue to ignore this problem. Obviously quality is not job one.
I returned the Sprawlmart one and picked another one up at Worst Buy and it has the same problem, except it's a little less noticable, I think I can tolerate it. I love XM itself, it makes road trips so much easier and I couldn't be happier with the stations and the music selection. But 100 bucks for a P.O.S. boombox is too much.
Incidentally, I tried somebody else's trick and plugged in my computer speakers to the headphone jack. The background noise was still there, but unlike the boombox, it increases or decreases with the volume level. So, you can have the sound at a low level and not feel like you're enduring an endless hearing test. At higher levels, the noise is more noticable and you're better off using the boombox speakers.
Also - I have an officemate with an identical boombox and hers does not make the background noise.

I got XM and the boombox in December. Love it, it's great. Would like to see a newer portable unit come out - waterproof, more durable. Something that will go to the beach. Delphi, get with it. Also, a walkman gimmic would work too.Digital camera Review: Boombox increases the pleasure of XM radio

Hi,XM radio is great. You have all the music and news without the annoying DJ's and commercials (Yes, they do have DJs and a few commercials, but nothing like "regular" radio).
I listen to the folk and dance stations. But everything is there...from country, to hard core rap, with everthing in between - jazz, classical, easy listening, etc etc.
The boombox is just an added bonus because now you can bring the music with you anywhere - the beach, camping, gardening etc.
I will admit that the sound won't be top notch to audiophiles. But, to most everyone the sound is fine and the selection is amazing. ... Can you tell that I love XM and the boombox ??

This is a very convenient unit for those who have the Delphi XM radio. It is intelligently designed and offers good sound.Be warned, however, that there is a substantial 60Hz humm and a "fluttering" of the audio at very low volume levels. This is especially noticed when listening to talk radio. Don't plan on listening to this unit while going to sleep. The artifacts are introduced by the boombox itself and are not found when using the "cradle" to hook it up to a home or car stereo.

Just purchased the Delphi SkyFi Audio System today and have had no problems with it. At exceptionally low volumes, I can hear a minor thrumming ... not the hiss that other reviewers are experiencing. The interference noise is very minimal and is gone above volume levels of 4...
The sound quality is pretty decent, although I'd have expected better for forking out 100 bones. As others have said, I'd expect a unit like this to run closer to 50, given the sound quality.
Got XM for Christmas and after comming up with excuses to drive anywhere, decided to take the plunge and spring for something to listen to around the house. I use it in our home office and garage, so I needed something stand alone.
