Digital camera reviews of Delphi XM Signal RepeaterDigital camera Review: Awesome! Summary: 5 StarsI am not sure what the problem is that folks are having with this unit. I guess the negative reviewers must be having some set up issues or they live in some impressively constructed fortress of a house.
I got the unit last night. I set up the antennae (that came with my audiovox receiver) in a south facing window and plugged in into the signal repeater. I then connected the repeater antennae to my audiovox XM player and it worked like a charm! I now have a very strong signal throughout my 1500 sq foot main floor (I have not checked the other floors of the house). We have a nice house with solid construction. In fact, without the delphi unit I had a hard time getting a signal through any of my windows, so I really am impressed with this product.
At this price this unit is a STEAL! I highly recommend it.
Digital camera Review: Don't get fooled... Summary: 5 StarsI see lots of 4 and 5 ratings for this product (including mine), and then a couple of 1's. Here's my guess of where those few poor ratings came from. The repeater base unit has an antenna input connector where the XM antenna plugs in. In the box it also comes with what looks like an 'antenna' module, which is really a receiver of the repeater signal. It may be tempting to plug that receiver into the base unit without thinking, and try to use it as the antenna? I know this sounds pretty dumb, but the plugs are compatible, so that's my guess. When used correctly (that is, the old antenna you were using before you got this device plugged into the base unit and the receiver module plugged into the XM receiver), this thing works well! I haven't tried to see what the range capability is, but it does give me a good signal from a couple of rooms away, and does NOT require line of sight. Just what I needed... thanks Santa (I mean Nat and Zach)!
Digital camera Review: Interferes with z-wave home automation Summary: 2 StarsI've just disconnected my Delphi XM Signal Repeater. It worked, and I enjoyed using it, but I'll have to find another way to get the XM signal from my outside antenna to my home office.
While putting up Christmas lights this year I discovered that the computer we traditionally use to control them, via a Z-wave network, could not do the job. In fact, the Z-wave network in our house (which always gets much bigger this time of year) wasn't behaving well at all. With the help of an AirView spectrum analyzer, I learned that there was an incredible amount of noise in my house all the way from 905 to 922MHz.
It took quite a lot of wandering around with the AirView to narrow it down (didn't help that I'd hidden the Delphi on top of a cabinet and forgotten it was there). Sure enough, when I unplugged the Delphi all that noise went away. As soon as it did, my Z-wave network started behaving itself again.
Z-wave only uses one frequency (908.42MHz), but the Delphi floods much of the 900MHz range. If you've got anything in your house that uses the 900MHz band, like any Z-wave home automation or perhaps a 900MHz wireless phone, I'd recommend against buying the Delphi XM Signal Repeater. This is disappointing for me but I am really disappointed at Delphi. Surely there was a way to design this device so that it doesn't flood such a broad amount of spectrum.
Digital camera Review: Acceptable performance. Summary: 4 StarsThis unit worked fine when I received it. The setup was very easy and straightforward. The unit I purchased is used in my office that has a south-facing window about 30 ft. away from my desk. I usually get full strength in most situations. I will loose signal if someone walks in front of the transmitter or if the repeater is not elevated enough to get a clear line of sight to the unit. Do not buy this unit if you expect to get more than 50 ft. of transmission distance or to transmit through multiple walls, especially if those walls contain live wires or excess metal. Overall I am pleased with the purchase. Before this purchase, I could only get 2 FM stations at my desk.
Digital camera Review: Works as advertised Summary: 5 StarsThis device solved my problem of no office reception due to double-thick glass. I installed the transmitter in a dry location outside the building approx. 75 ft. from my office window. My reception is acceptable (it would be perfect @ 50 ft. or less...).
I recommend this product to everyone.
