Digital camera reviews of Diamond VC500 One Touch Video Capture DeviceDigital camera Review: Don't Waste Your Money Summary: 1 StarsThe price is right but the cheap comes out expensive. The video quality that this device captures is really not worth having. It's very buggy! I have a fast computer that can handle a lot more than this product has to give so it's not my system that's causing the device to capture both video and sound in less than good quality. Save your money!
Digital camera Review: Nice, Compatible with ORB - No Software included for viewing/recording Summary: 5 StarsThis is a good USB Video Capture device that works with Windows (my version is XP). Install was easy. Drivers come with the package. Though no software for viewing / recording the TV signal is provided, it is reported to work with Windows Vista and Windows 7 Media Center - which comes free with these two Operating Systems. I initially purchased a device that would work with Orb on my Windows XP system. Orb for Windows is a free product and records and plays back video from the device.
The input is a composite signal, not S-Video or RCA. That was what I needed because that allows the device to select the channel, having all channels available to it, for instance from your cable provider. I plan to get a splitter so that one side can go into the device, and another to my TV.
So far so good. Diamond is a good name in Graphics, and this is working well to date.
Digital camera Review: Frustrated!! Summary: 2 StarsI have yet to copy any VHS tapes to DVD with this device, as it doesn't seem to work properly. I installed everything as instructed, but when I play the VHS tape on my VCR, the computer screen remains black. I saw another review about this and they had simply plugged the cords in the wrong place on the VCR. I checked mine and they were plugged in correctly so I have no idea how to get this thing to work!! Any suggestions??
Digital camera Review: It works on 32-bit not 64-bit machines Summary: 3 StarsThe software for this video capture cable does not install on 64-bit machines. I had to use an older 32-bit machine (Windows Vista) and then move the files to my newer 64-bit desktop. Also, after about 30 min of continuous recording the video and sound get slightly out of sync. A quick start and stop solves the issue but then you have separate files for each start/stop. If I had it to do over I'd try to buy a better cable/software package even if I had to spend a little more money.
Digital camera Review: Diamond VC500 Works Great For Me! Summary: 5 StarsI have Windows XP Pro Version 2002 with Service Pack 3 installed on my computer. Several reviewers said that the Diamond VC500 Video Capture device would not work with this operating system setup. This made me a little hesitant to try this video capture device at first. But the almost too good to be true price for this little item that pretty much does the same job as more expensive options for capturing video was just too tempting to not give it a try. I only installed the driver software for the device and not any of the other software like the video editor. I was capturing video from old VHS tapes in no time. The quality of the video is pretty good too meeting or even exceeding my expectations. I have 2 Gigs of RAM installed in my computer and my processor is a Pentium 4. Everything worked great right from the first time trying to use the device and everytime thereafter. I would recommend setting yourself a system restore point on your computer just in case the software that comes with this thing does do a number on changing important system files. Also, I would recommend closing any programs that you are not using before launching the capture software. Disable things like screensavers and all those programs that run in the background like those that display their little icons down by the clock on the Windows Taskbar. Press the Control, Alt, and Delete keys on your computer keyboard to disable some of the programs running that you know for a fact do not need to be running to free up more system resources. Then hopefully, you will have improved success at using the Diamond VC500 video Capture Device. I am very please with this item. It works great for my purposes. Go on and give it a try! Consider taking some of the advice that I have mentioned here and hopefully this item will work great for you too!
