I recently purchased the Grundig 960 here at Amazon from "The Golden Rule" and the performance is surprising, especially after reading several negative reviews of this radio. AM is crisp and clear, ideal for sports, talk and news. FM reception is very sensitive with a 1950's rich warmth to the sound that can be enhanced by the bass and treble controls. The 2 side speakers provide spaciousness and a wider dimension to the sound so you don't need to be sitting near it, but can even enjoy the sound in the next room. SW stations come in very strongly across the dial with minimal fade out. Antennas are not included, but if you get a 20 ft. SW retractable antenna at Radio Shack (the plug fits the radio jack), and use a long piece of wire for an FM antenna, performance is greatly enhanced on all 3 bands. As for appearance, this radio is a beauty. The cabinet has a deep gloss piano finish which I imagine was achieved by several coats of laquer. The combination of the gold trim, vintage looking grille cloth and soft glowing dial provide a great mystique that was very characteristic of 1950's radios. The look and the sound of this radio will provide you with a great listening experience, one that modern plastic digital sets cannot provide.(As for the negative reviews, I can only assume that some of these people must be very serious shortwave enthusiasts that require digital precision tuning). But if you are a nostalgia buff like me, and appreciate a beautiful tone and vintage appearance, I highly recommend this radio. When and how it looks is about the sound of its knowledge. Knowledge contained in shortwave is not found on this radio. This means the eccentrics of this radio far outdo the nomination. I actually like the looks a lot and am plastic that the sound is real. You should afford this radio with one think in mind. All the others are differing . A good standard reliable home theatre.Thanks
