Digital camera reviews of Emerson PD5098 Portable Radio CD PlayerDigital camera Review: A hard-working, long-lasting, value-priced player Summary: 5 Stars
I received this Emerson CD player as a gift. I really enjoy listening to music, especially in my kitchen and DR, where space is at a premium. Since I've had the player, it's been used every day for at least 2 hours, sometimes 4. I play CD's on it, and also listen to the radio.
Pros:
- Clear, bright sound
- CD's can be programmed for play
- CD songs can be set to repeat a single song or the entire CD
- Space saving
- Did I mention that this little CD really holds up to daily use?
Cons:
- Radio has a knob so it's difficult to change between stations. For me, this is a non-issue as I primarily listen to one station, or else to CD's
- Uh,...I can't really think of anything else.
So far, my Emerson CD player has lasted two and a half years. It's only now starting to show signs of wear, and I will certainly be replacing it with another Emerson CD player..
Digital camera Review: A very good bang for a very little buck! Summary: 5 Stars
On a recent weekend getaway, when my wife and I arrived at the hotel I realized I'd neglected to pack one of our portable radio/CD players. Plenty of CD's but no player. Oh well. The radio, I figured, would have to do. I switched on the clock radio by the bed. It only got one FM station, got it rather poorly I might add and it was a country music station to boot. (pun intended) Nothing against all you C & W music fans out there but that music just isn't our cup of tea (cup of grits?) so we drove over to the local __Mart (oooh! good guess!!) to pick up a cheap FM radio. I already have two portable radio/CD players at home, expensive ones, and didn't need another. I just wanted something we could listen to that weekend, a cheap FM radio, a throw-away if you will. Was I ever surprised to find that for about the same price as we'd paid for breakfast that morning I could buy the Emerson PD5098 Portable CD System! In spite of poor in-room radio reception, as evidenced by the sorry little clock radio, the FM stations came through on the Emerson clear as a bell. Our CD's, even ones I'd recorded on two different PC's, played flawlessly. Is this unit a throw-away? No. No way. Being way smaller, lighter, cheaper and much easier to pack and to carry than our old ones it is now our official traveling radio/CD player. Will I use it every day? No. We'll only use it when we travel. It'll probably last forever! Did the three inch speaker do the trick? Yep, it sounded great and we could hear our tunes just fine even over the noise of the whirlpool tub jets and the sound of all the moaning. (Let's get our mind out of the gutter, shall we? The moaning came mostly from me. When I knocked the bottle over. And spilled the last half of the champagne.) Will I break down and cry uncontrollably (like with the champagne) if I ever accidently leave the unit behind somewhere? No. I'll miss it but at such a reasonable price I won't miss it for long. I'll quickly purchase another Emerson PD5098 to replace it. Good job, Emerson. Nice size. Nice sound. Nice price.
Digital camera Review: Absolute Junk! Summary: 1 Stars
I tried to give it a zero rating but Amazon makes you at least choose a 1.
It played one CD and quit. The volume can't be turned up enough to hear it unless it is in your lap. It makes an annoying noise when playing a CD. I should have know since we have had bad experiences in the past with Emerson. I was hoping it would work because of compact design. Save your money.
Digital camera Review: Absolutely awful Summary: 1 Stars
I'm a little surprised by how awful this CD player is. Granted, it's cheap, but this is ridiculous. From day one, the sound quality on this unit was pretty mediocre. We heard some noise while playing a CD, and the sound was rather tinny. These problems progressed steadily. In the few months that we've owned it, it's become so bad that we now need to purchase another unit.
Somehow, the speakers managed to blow out despite the fact that the ONLY thing we have ever played on this unit is a CD of lullabies. We use it every night for about 10 minutes to put our toddler to bed. This nightly 10 minutes of lullaby playing on LOW volume proved to be far too much for this unit to handle.
Put your money toward something better. This thing is less than useless--it's now destined to rot in a landfill.
Digital camera Review: Absolutly the best portable I have owned Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned this Emerson AM/FM CD player for about 3 years. I have the later model with the LCD track indicator. The unit has performed flawlessly for me since the day I took it out of the box. It is not a high end system but for the money, I give it 5 stars and would give it 6 if they were allowed. The sound quality is about what you would hear from a good old model 5 tube radio. Clean and clear with adequate volume. For batteries, it needs 6 C cells. I bought C cell to AA cell adapters and have been using rechargeable AA batteries with it since day one. The batteries last a good while between charges. It comes with an AC power cord and works well with either power source. The AM and FM radio sections are both good. The AM section is sensitive and picks up a lot of stations. The FM is a little less sensitive but gives good reception since there are so many stations around now. The system is easy to use and is pretty rugged. Mine has survived quite a few hard bumps over the years. The CD player is not prone to skipping. You have to bump it pretty hard to get a skip. I use this radio every day including the CD player. I am in fact playing a CD on it now as I am typing. It plays all commercial CD's as well as CD's burned using CD-R Music and CD-RW disks. This Emerson is a winner. Because of it's age, I am going to buy another one before they become extinct. The unit is not stereo but that is a plus for me because it is also not the usual ugly round buxom boom box style you always see at the local store. It is small, light weight and dependable. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a real radio/CD combo but does not want to carry around a 10 pound portable stereo system and wants reasonable quality sound. I plan to get another one.
