Digital camera reviews of Emerson PD5098 Portable Radio CD Player

Digital camera Review: Didn't work
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this product to play classical music during art class. I've given it plenty of time, but it has continued to be a frustrating problem, it works fitfully with the cord, poorly with batteries. When it does work, the sound has occasional static, but most often the CD won't play at all. The radio does not get good reception on weaker stations that other people's portable radios have no trouble with. It's a big disappointment. I had long ago gotten rid of the box it came in so wasn't sure how to return it. I probably won't buy this kind of product through Amazon again because it's difficult to return and get my money back.

Digital camera Review: Disappointed
Summary: 3 Stars

Good reviews and product experience led me to buy two of these right off. While I would have preferred an MP3 hook up, the CD song program ability is what sold me on it. I have a small child who has an ever changing preference of songs she wants to listen repeatedly as she goes to sleep, and catering to that is beyond old.

At first it was good, though the sound wasn't anything to brag about. But then the programming started to mess up and I was in the child's bedroom every hour fixing songs again just like before. The other one is still doing fine, but it never gets programmed, so maybe that was the underlying issue with the first one.

Anyway, it's a decent enough CD player for occasional use or travel, but I would recommend investing in something more expensive if you want it to do more than just play the CD.

Digital camera Review: Disappointed re CD feature gets "hung-up"
Summary: 2 Stars

I owned for three years my FIRST Emerson PD5098 CD/AM/FM radio until it fell on cement and was completely broken (my fault). I was so disappointed because this first one WORKED GREAT, all three types of listening (CD/FM/AM). I liked the size, style, portability.

I used it 90% of the time for audio books from library. So I'm only going to comment on the CD PORTION of the unit. I felt lucky enough to find the same model at K-Mart so promptly purchased it. After about 6 months using the SECOND unit, the CD TRACKS GOT "HUNG-UP" (REPEATING 3 WORDS) until I would jiggle or tap (actually bang on) the unit, only then did the CD continued on. But this would happen ten times on one CD. What a nuisance! But then sometimes (maybe 75% of the time) the CD's ran smoothly, uninterrupted . I even had a brand new CD audio book (set of 10) and the tracks still got "hung-up" on every new CD so I then knew it wasn't the continually played CD's from the library.

At Amazon I saw this model STILL being sold and read all 179 reviews and concentrated on the 1-2-3 star reviews. Only a few reviews mentioned the CD's getting "hung-up." This unit is going in the garbage, not even to Goodwill.

So now I'm on the search for a smooth running CD player with speakers for my audio books. I discovered on Amazon's website a GPX table model BC219B unit (that even has a MP3 jack). I'm going to purchase it and prayerfully it will be a flawless listening device. Unfortunately it takes eight (8) "C" batteries but don't plan to use it that way. Read those reviews and decided to give it a try. Bottom line, very disappointed in Emerson.

Digital camera Review: Disappointing product
Summary: 1 Stars

I would not recommend this product or any other Emerson product. I bought this for my baby boy to play CD's when he sleeps. I bought it when he was almost a year old and he is now 2 1/2 and the CD player has stopped working. I contacted Emerson about this and I was told because the warranty has expired there is nothing they can do. A product like this should not stop working after 1 1/2 years. I was very disappointed with this product and the response from the company that I will never purchase a Emerson product again. A company needs to stand behind their products.

Digital camera Review: Don't be fooled. HORRIBLE quality over time
Summary: 1 Stars

OK, I confess. We were burned the first time and we bought another one.

Why? Because it matched the decor of the bathroom we use it in (bathtime for kids).

The first one completely died after very little use. The second one is also barely used and we have to hit the CD buttons over and over to get them work.

The sound is fine, the size is great and the radio works ok for what it is...but the CD player is tempermental and we're just waiting for it to completely die again. It's already showing signs.

BTW, we bought it both times at Kmart for about five bucks less both times.
