Digital camera reviews of Emerson Radio Jumbo Triple Display Dual Alarm AM/FM Clock Radio with SmartSet Technology

Digital camera Review: Absolutely Wonderful!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best clock I have ever seen. I bought this for my husband because he has a hard time with clocks. It's funny because he can build a plane but can't work a clock. This clock turns off after a few seconds and with the wave of the hand, turns back on. This is a nice feature because at night time you don't have this bright light that keeps you up all night. When you want to see the time, just wave your hand in front of it. Also, when the alarm goes off in the morning, you just wave your hand in front of it and the alarm sets automatically to snooze. No searching for buttons! I would recommend this clock to everyone. Especially those who have a hard time with using one to begin with.

Digital camera Review: Almost perfect

I've been using this alarm clock for about 10 months now.

I had a few problems with other alarm clocks. I went thru 3 of them in less than a year before I found this one.

For me, a common problem is that the 'dim' setting is too bright at night.
The option of having it off completely and having to touch it to see the time is not for me. This one dims down real nice. Could be just a tich dimmer for nighttime, but it's dim enough, and way dimmer than a couple others I had.

Seems like most alarm clocks the numbers are too small to read without my glasses. This one I can read.

Often, finding the alarm off button required engaging too much of my brain just after waking up, and on some the switch turns the alarm really 'off'. This one the alarm off button is big and easy to find, and the alarm stays set to ring again the next day if it is supposed to.

Some people thought the volume was too low. Maybe that's true for the 'beeper'. But when I have the radio option selected, and the volume is turned up, it's LOUD. If I get up without turning the alarm off, I can hear that radio EASY all thru that end of the house as I get ready for work.

Changing the alarm times or weekday/weekend 'modes' is very intuitive. Never need the book. For either alarm1 or alarm2, you start by holding down the alarm1 or alarm2 button. That shows the 'mode'. To change the time, press the big up/down rocker button. To change the mode, press the mode button. Done.

I do have 2 small problems with this clock:
1. The analog radio tuner is ultra low tech. It reminds me of the cheap transistor radios I had as a kid many years ago. My advice: find a strong station and let it be. It will work fine. If you try to use a weaker station, within a week or so, you're likely to hear static instead of music when you wake up.

2. I had to disable the 'wave your hand' snooze feature by putting a piece of black tape over the sensor. I have a big window near the west side foot of my bed, and my alarm clock is at the east side head of my bed. If it's light outside when the alarm goes off, any movement by my leg or arm casts a shadow on the alarm and would activate the snooze. Just reaching for the alarm off button would activate the snooze. But the tape fixed that.

Digital camera Review: Almost perfect..

This would be the ideal clock radio if not for the following:

The motion sensor is unpredictable. Sometimes it ignores you waving at it, sometimes it wakes up and blasts you with a beam of orange if you as much as blink at it.

The beam of orange. When it's set to dim, it's also set to ultra bright eye burner mode. You can either set the display to bright, dim, and motion - except the motion is also set to bright. It's very annoying when it turns on because you moved just a little because it lights up the entire room.

Finally, the analog tuning would be fine, if it wasn't right below and exactly the same size and feel as the volume dial. So often in the dark I end up turning the wrong one.

Digital camera Review: Audio Evaluation of Emerson Clock Radio
Summary: 2 Stars

I have two of these Clock Radios and they would be perfect except for the Audio Quality. There is serious audio distortion on all stations. Since the radio has a small speaker and a plastic case only the higher frequency sounds can be heard and for some reason the higher frequency noises are also emitted. As I said every thing else about this radio is perfect. It is unfortunate that Emerson did not consider this problem when the radio was designed.

Digital camera Review: Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

Had a previous model that resets for old daylight savings and that just got too annoying. Had the old clock 7 years and it is still working great other than the daylight thing. I don't like the sound of the alarm as well on this one but still not awful. I hope I never have to give up this alarm clock and one reason is that we can see it without our glasses.
