Digital camera reviews of Energy 5.1 Take Classic Home Theater System (Set of Six, Black)Digital camera Review: Excellent choice for the money Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these speaker for my second home theatre. The reviews were uniformly excellent, so I decided to give them a shot.
I was not disappointed. The sound is fantastic. Compared to my other system (another micro package - made by Athena), these speakers provided a brighter and broader sound stage. And they were a snap to set up. Just set the crossover frequency to 110 on my reciever, and away I went.
The sound reproduction for DVD's is excellent. Great balance throughout - the subwoofer integrates fantastically with the satellite speakers. And the center channel handles dialogue well.
I was most surprised at how well the system sounded for music. I was afraid that I'd lose the middle range - but the sound was remarkably balanced. I haven't cranked up the sound too loud - and probably never will - but at moderate volume it was fantastic.
I'm generally not a fan of "surround" modes for music either. But, music played back using the NEO 6 surround mode on my Denon AVR-588 sounds fantastic. It just adds a nice third dimension. The sound was rich and wonderful.
In fact, the two items paired together make a excellent low cost surround sound solution. I think the total price was somewhere areound $700 for both the reciever and the speakers.
Stongly recommend these speakers for small to medium rooms.
Digital camera Review: Excellent speakers Summary: 5 Stars
First set of surround sound speakers I've owned. Placed them in a medium sized living room. Understanding I'm not an audiophile, these speakers are excellent given the price point. Using them strictly for movies, I've been extremely happy with them.
Digital camera Review: Fantastic Bang for the Buck! Summary: 5 Stars
I wouldn't consider myself a true audiophile, but I am musically trained and I have a very good ear. Obviously I wanted a good sounding system, but unfortunately I am a college student with a very limited budget. That being the case, I did a lot of research before buying a new system to try to get the most I could for the money. I had previously never heard of the energy brand before I came across the Take 5 package. I read at least a half dozen professional reviews and probably three dozen user reviews and heard nothing but good things. With this system being ideal for small rooms (such as my 12x10 room at home or a college dorm room) I decided these were the way to go. I was not disappointed. The build quality from such a small and inexpensive system is impressive. The piano black looks very sharp (provided you remember to dust your speakers regularly) and their small size makes for easy placement. They open up a little more with some breathing room but still hold up when wall mounted. These little babies pack a lot of wallop in a small room with a mid-level receiver, I had to turn them way down the first time I used them. Right out of the box they sound pretty good. The highs, especially with musical instruments, are a bit harsh at first but the smooth out as the speakers break in and become quite phenominal for the price. The midrange is very solid, but things get weak as you hit the lower end of the spectrum. Being 3.5 inch woofers, you really cannot be surprised. Luckily, the system has a matching subwoofer included. Getting the crossover to sound right was a bit wonky. It was difficult to get it to blend with the speakers, but that might be largely attributed to the poor acoustics of my listening room. However, once the fine tuning was finished the sub really impressed. The sound is very clean and accurate, and while it won't blow you out of the water, the quality of the sound itself is phenominal and the lows sound exactly as they should. Very rarely did the sub bottom out and it was only at higher volumes. Overall, I cannot say enough about the Energy Take 5 system. I have had it for a month now and absolutely love it. It has phenominal build quality (try the knuckle rap test, these things are built like rocks) a good amount of fit and finish (they look great with the grills on or off) and a surprising amount of sound quality and power from such tiny speakers. If you have very limited space and/or a very limited budget, do not hessitae to buy these speakers, nothing can touch them at their price range.
Digital camera Review: Fantastic Speakers Summary: 5 Stars
These speakers look and sound beautiful. The glossy black make them match the rest of our components perfectly. The speakers come with a microphone for automatic speaker setup. When you run this feature it will measure the distance from the listener to each speaker individually and adjust each speaker (includung the subwoofer) for optimal sound. This only needs to be done after initial speaker placement or when the speakers are moved. The subwoofer is a down-firing bass that puts out a very nice sound. We have ours turned down for a subtle bass background. Energy is a Klipsh company so you are getting a good quality product. This set sounds better than much more expensive brands we looked at.
Digital camera Review: Fantastic quality and sound..Highly recommended. Summary: 5 Stars
I had owned a Sony HTCT-100 sound bar for several months and while it was satisfactory. I wanted something that could produce a decent sound i.e. 5.1 at an affordable price and was highly rated. I spend several weeks researching and realized that in every audio forum the Energy brand carried a mention. To be honest, I had never even heard of this brand but there it was very highly rated and respected with almost 75 five star reviews on Amazon alone along with the CNET editor's choice award. I settled for these speakers along with an Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver. I placed the order on a Tuesday and received these by Friday thanks to the free super saver shipping. These come in a single box which has the five speakers in a palette like box and the subwoofer is in a cloth bag, which is good for storing it in incase if you are ever going to move.
If you are new to speaker systems, like I am, please note that they come with no speaker wire or the male to male cable for the subwoofer. So please order or have in hand speaker wire and subwoofer cable. I used 16 gauge RCA wire and a RCA male to male cable for the woofer.
The speakers are very beautiful to look at and have a shiny black exterior and that attracts a lot of dust, you can use them with the cover or remove them. I chose to have the speaker cover on.
Assembling the speakers did take a lot of time as I had never run a set up like this before, I would say about 2 hours to hookup the receiver, speakers and the TV. I have a very small room about 12 x 20 and the speakers are more than adequate for this room. I figure they would do a great job in much larger rooms also. Energy recommends a break in period of about 50 hours but these sound great out of the box, the sound is stunning. I played Shrek 3 which I had watched about twice before and I heard sounds that I had never heard before, it was as if I had watched the movie for the very first time. I love these speakers and highly recommend them for anyone. I am extremely satisfied with these and I think they are perfect for the newcomer but would also satisfy most audiophiles. Five star. 3/2/11
