Digital camera Review: Excellent Scanner

I replaced a UMAX Powerlook II with the Epson V 750 Pro. This is an excellent scanner for working as a stand-alone scanner to do copies or OCR into Microsoft Word. The scanning capabilites are excellent and it will work thie the SliverFast or EZ color utilities (trial versions)that are bundled. Setup of the scanner went exceptionally well on the first try- far easier than some of the others that I have owned. This scanner has the ability to do transparencies, negatives, and x-rays which is a real bonus versus the slower Nikon one-slide-at-a-time scanner.
My only comments about the scanner is that Amazon ships the scanner by putting a UPS label directly on the box. The first scanner that came by standard UPS looked like it was dropped on one of the corners and was returned. The second scanner was ordered via overnight and arrived with two corners caved inwards and was refused. Finally, I got smart, paid the $3.99 for gift wrapping (blue bag) which meant thatt the wrapped scanner had to go in a larger box with padding. This one arrived without a scratch. Unfortunately, this ordering and returning becomes a problem. I don't understand why Amazon would ship a delicate electro-optical device and expose it to damage in transit.

The Epson Perfection V750 is a highly versatile, professional-level scanner with its full feature software (SilverFast Ai, etc). However with this high-level comes complexity that is more appropriate for the professional or dedicated, skilled amateur. This is one of the best scanners I have used. Digital ICE has yet to produce a good image, but I am working on that. The V750-M PRO comes with an older X-Rite profile kit that unfortunately does not include the needed Silverfast reflectance target--so the unit cannot be profiled out of the box for reflectance work. The transparency target worked fine, and the slides that I scanned come out nicely balanced. Silverfast is selling me the proper reflectance target after several days of trying to get them to respond to my calls for help, and, I should add that I did upgrade to Ai Studio. Enough about the software, I find that the scanner works very well, produces excellent images and is quiet and repeatable. The Epson scanning software is also very good, but without the control of the Silverfast product. Still, though, there is that Digital ICE problem with both programs. I understand that Silverfast uses the Epson ICE subroutine as it is called to do the ICE corrections. Still, best scanner I have used to date. That's is why I gave the Epson V750-MPRO five stars. It is faster and essentially as good as my stand-alone Nikon unit.Digital camera Review: Fine piece of equipment!

This scanner is everything that a person needs to restore old photos, scan new photos. It does everything. One must take the time to read the instructions, can be time consuming, but so worth it! I have been able to restore old family photos to new! Water stains, gone, cracks in photos, gone, fuzzy edges, gone. I do graphic design and from time to time you need a scanner to get a job done. A normal photo scanner wont do when it needs to be printed on a press. This has super high resolution DPI and scans very fast, even on the maximum DPI setting. All the software that comes with it is nice too. Not really needed if you have photoshop but still nice if you dont. The Text Reader software is handy too. Only used it a couple of times and it has been 100% in reading text perfectly. The only complaint is that it has a small surface area. 9x12 i believe. But for the price, and quality you cant beat it.
