Digital camera reviews of Fellowes P-57Cs, 8 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder 3205701Digital camera Review: Affordable alternative Summary: 5 Stars
This is an affordable alternative to the more powerful models. Its black with a silver paper insert. Its approxmately 16 inches high, 12 inches deep and 15 inches wide. The switch is located on top of the unit.Move the switch left to turn it on or right for reverse with the middle being off. It has two rows of steel blades with each row consisting of 27 teeth.
The price point was my reason for purchase so I really wasn't expecting much and while this little guy is great at shredding a couple of sheets at a time he really struggles with more than that. He will shred the paper into confetti as advertised so theres no problem with someone stealing personal information.
Make sure to buy the lubricating oil, it comes in really nice when his blades get jammed. Apply the oil along the width of the paper insert then switch him to reverse until the jam clears.
I would've preferred a clear basket so I could easily tell when to empty the paper shreds but basically you have to peek inside by lifting the top and tilting it. The shredded confetti tends to fall in a continous pile that builds up like a mountain peak if you can imagine that on a much smaller scale, the peak eventually reaches the bottom of the shredder blades before filling the basket so I recommend shaking the paper basket a few good times to level off that peak.
I recommend this shredder for light to moderate work but not for anything to tough.
Yes, I had to much free time on my hands while writing this to actually count all the teeth in this shredder for you.
Digital camera Review: Almost everything that was on the tin Summary: 4 Stars
Can't fault the product - it does pretty much everything it says it would but... I would fault the folks that wrote the sales description as a confetti shred for me is the highest security shred that can not be put back together. This version of confetti is a thin inch-long piece of paper that can, if you were patient enough and willing enough, be taped back together. Not 100% what I was looking for but, does a good job for the price and the child safety feature was a must-have for us.
Digital camera Review: And go light on the vegetable oil Summary: 3 Stars
I used 6 - #20 pieces of printer paper and it jammed. My shredder will do 3 pieces, but I put in 2 and it works fine. Good for someone that needs to shred mail and other very light tasks. Don't shred sticky stuff and go light on the vegetable oil. Next time I'll go heavy duty.
Digital camera Review: As advertised Summary: 4 Stars
This shredder performs as advertised and would recommend it to anyone who wants a functional and inexpensive shredder.
Digital camera Review: Avoid Identity Theft Summary: 4 Stars
Probably the easiest way to avoid identity theft is to shred all documents with your personal info on it. I had lots of old documents to shred and needed a machine with ample storage capacity, that wouldn't overheat when shredding more than a few documents as some small machines do and not too expensive. The P-57C seems to fit that criteria. Be suspicious of "sheets at a time" ratings on all machines -- they seem to be a fantasy! Get a machine with crosscut shredding as this one does. Don't forget to buy shredder oil -- you will need it.
