Digital camera reviews of Fellowes P-57Cs, 8 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder 3205701Digital camera Review: Decent Shredder for Low Cost Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this shredder after reading numerous reviews. It was on sale for $42 on Amazon, which was about what I was willing to spend, since I have a small home office and don't need to shred on a regular basis. I would not recommend this shredder for someone who needs to shred large amounts of paper on a regular basis. First, it does fine shredding 3 pages at a time. It is not a confetti shredder, but makes strips small enough for me to feel comfortable with the security level. The bin is solidly constructed (not sure what the prior reviewer meant who said it was wobbly -- it's made of thick black plastic, so it's not flimsy). Although the manufacturer photos make it look as though you can empty the bin by flipping the top up, that is not the case -- you can flip the top up to check the shredded paper level perhaps, but to empty it, you have to remove the shredding mechanism, which fits snugly into the bin. Because it has a shredding motor within it, it is a bit heavy (10-15 lbs.) to remove, but doable most able-bodied people. The one thing that is a little quirky is that there is a small lever inside the edge of the top part of the shredder that must fit just right onto the top edge of the bin or the shredder won't turn on -- there is a small but audible "click" when the lever inside the top half is successfully engaged. IT just means that you have to make sure to seat the top properly into the bottom bin, which isn't a big deal to me. A decent shredder for $42.
Digital camera Review: Decent shred, poor design Summary: 2 Stars
The search for a decent shredder is more dreadful than finding a good fitting shoe! This product was purchased based on my reading others reviews and not wanting to spend $300+ for a small office shredder. The design of the unit is quite poor because the shredder unit sits on the basket in such a way that it is unstable and appears to want to fall over. I would not buy it again, although my home "11 sheet" Fellowes shredder bought for less than $50 a couple of years ago is much better...
Digital camera Review: Decent shredder Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this because my old shredder barely shredded one piece of paper. This one is much quieter, a good thing. The safety feature of turning off if a hand gets too near the feeder is great. But it was advertised as a cross-cut shredder and it's doesn't do much cross cutting. It mostly strip cuts and then crumbles the strips. I haven't send a credit card through it yet, I'm not sure it won't break the machine. The shredder comes with one basket, which fills up very quickly. Be careful--when you see white through the plastic lens, empty it right away. Otherwise, it may overfill and you'll get crumbled paper all over your floor.Fellowes 32057 Powershred P-57Cs Shredder
Digital camera Review: Decent shredder for home use Summary: 4 Stars
This is a decent shredder for home use - not for business or even small business. The motor really bogs down with about 3 sheets or more. As long as you expect this, then I think you'll be happy with this purchase.
Digital camera Review: Decent, Home-Use Shredder Summary: 3 Stars
I had a 12-year-old Fellowes shredder, which had given superb service, die recently, so I decided to stick with same brand as a replacement. Am not disappointed with the 57Cs unit, per se, but it is definitely a light-duty, occasional-use shredder. If I had it to do over again, I would definitely spend a little extra for a unit that was a bit heavier duty (look for ability to shred CDs/DVDs, which this unit will not do, as a tip-off).
All in all, I got my money's worth, I just wish I had spent a bit more of it for a little bit more shredder.
