Digital camera reviews of Fisher Space Pen, Bullet Space Pen with Clip, Matte Black, Gift Boxed (400BCL)Digital camera Review: Not for everyone but worth it, even at twice the price. Summary: 5 StarsI'm on my third or fourth, I've lost count. I recall these being around as far back as the early 1970s, an back then they only offered chrome and no pocket clip. So, they're provenance claim is accurate.
I work both outdoors and indoors, write on paper, facing downward *most* of the time. This pen has successfully functioned for me exactly as advertised. It's my everyday use pen, particularly out in the field.
It's a ballpoint, and the ink's a tad thicker than cheaper ballpoint pen inks, so it requires a small amount of effort to use it. It's great for occasional use, but I could see taking 10+ pages of notes could get old.
If you get one, make sure the pocket clip is pressed at least 1/4 to 1/3 of the way down on the cap, otherwise it will slip off unnoticed. Also make sure the O-ring on the pen body is present, and has a tiny knick in it for air release. The cap should have a small amount of drag as it's pulled off. Twisting the pen body halves together compresses the O-ring, causing it to squeeze out and increases cap "drag".
I have experienced a problem, but I haven't traced the exact cause. I have lost at least three of these pens, two of them this exact model. One finally surfaced, but was claimed by my wife. As far as I can tell, they're a little heavier than a standard pen, and with a smooth, streamlined profile it easily slips out of the smallest hole in my pocket. To help avoid this, I pressed the pocket clip a little further down on the cap to tighten it, and tied a 24" long strand of parachute cord to the clip. So far, so good...[8^)
