I think Flip is the absolute leader in inexpensive mini camcorders. They've definitely improved their line with the additions of the MinoHD.
The one thing I really love about the Flip line of cameras, is you don't have to worry about that extra CD to install programs on your computer. It's all tucked away nice and safe on the camera ready for you to plug it in and go. Any install that needs to be done is immediately done by the camera.
The editing software is much improved over the one that came with the Ultra line of Flip cameras. It now allows you to add an opening title, join clips together to make one movie, and then add end credits. The only thing I would like to see added to the software is the ability to add a couple of different transitions to between the clips.
When it comes to the camcorder itself, it's dead easy to use. Hit the power button and in less than 3 seconds you're ready to go. Hit the red record button and you're making HD memories.
The only thing preventing me from giving this 5 stars is the sensitivity of the buttons. With the exception of the record button all the other buttons are extremely touch sensitive. I've found myself more than once lightly grazing the zoom button while filming and having it zoom in or out when I didn't want it too. The buttons work somewhat like the touch screen on the iPhone where just the lightest touch can set off the capacitive feedback of the button to activate it.
One other thing I would like to see Flip add to their cameras is an SD card slot so you can add additional recording time. All in all though 60 minutes of recording time is sufficient for most things I do, but it would be nice to have that choice.
Given its small size, I always carry my Flip with me everywhere I go. It's perfect for parents with small kids, because you can just throw it in the diaper bag and always have it on had to catch those cute moments that pop up. You can't ask for an easier camera to use.

The Flip Mino HD might have been a winner had it used the same processor that the Mino Ultra used, but you end up getting more portability and paying for it in poor image quality. Don't believe me, go to YouTube and check out test videos. Here's what to watch for: 1) focusing is set for optimum distance of 2-4 feet (distant objects are fuzzy); 2) color is far too bluish, and this will make it even worse for overcast days; 3) rechargeable battery is a Li-ion battery and is not replaceable, and 4) there is no stability features. The Flip Ultra HD is vastly superior and takes 2 AA rechargeable batteries, has the newer processor, though focusing is still optimized for close-ups. Image quality of the Ultra is vastly superior and you can get the Ultra for $150. The Mino HD, here, is presently $119. I'd pay the extra for the Ultra.

Amazing picture quality, ease of use and download. The build in software is very simple to use. Mine froze up after at least 6 months and they took it back and fixed it for FREE! Even after the warranty was expired. Great customer service! It's my second Flip and I love them and tell everyone about them. I'm also an affiliate for them now too I like them so much. This mini video camera is easy to operate and compact. I was very impressed by the quality of sound and sharpness of the picture. You can create still shots and make great movies. It allows you to put in your own background music and titles. I am very happy with my purchase and look forward to using it more. I love the sharing and easy upload features. It is an awesome little piece of equipment. I am hopeful that an underwater case will be offered soon. That would be cool. This very easy to use - very intuitive camcorder - is perfect for capturing teen or tween drama. It may be a little less perfect for the mom on the go (that would be me).
What's in the box:
-Packaging is beautiful - nicely boxed and presented - makes it look way more expensive then it it
- Camcorder on top, came with a 75% charge - woohoo!
- Documentation, tv cable, wrist strap, and little black sack on bottom
Pros:
-Very easy to use buttons, not a lot of clutter, very intuitive - no need to open the directions to start trying it out
-While it is small, it has ample room to place your hand without covering the lens
-Screen on back (no viewfinder) works well enough and is true (color etc) to life to what transferred to my computer
-Flip up USB is a nice touch
-Mic is surprisingly powerful, we picked up background noise from about 20 feet away - can be a negative or a positive
-Runs natively on my Mac - pops up just like a flash drive, movies came off ready to use in iMovie or iTunes as an .mp4 file - transfer was quick and easy
-Each clip is a separate file and can be deleted or played back separately w/ sound on the camera
-Cool optional accessories - like this Flip Video Underwater Case for Flip Ultra Camcorders
Cons:
- I felt the USB was a little flimsy, it collapses easy, so I am worried about breaking it while plugging it in
- It has an orange tint in inside lighting conditions - blah! - but that's a common problem, this is not a professional camera
- No way to cover lens when not in use
- Must charge via USB - if the battery goes, I think the camera goes too
Summary, for about the same size and price as my iPhone you get a digital camcorder that produces comparable video to a low end mini DV camcorder. However, this camcorder makes up for its slightly higher price tag by being sleek, digital, easy to use, and very compact. With no tapes to buy and being super portable, this is the perfect companion for capturing spontaneous moments. It can go where no other cameras can go and will definitely be on my next snuba trip. I recently sent back a similar camera from a competitor for poor video; however this one is acceptable even with somewhat disappointing results indoors, which are within reason for its price point. It does have its limitations with reduced controls compared to a low end camcorder, which may not make it the best choice for budget conscious parents. However, it would make a great present for a tween to teen.
