Digital camera reviews of Flip MinoHD Video Camera - Black, 4 GB, 1 Hour (1st Generation) OLD MODEL

Digital camera Review: Better than previous version
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This flip HD camcorder is cool. It does what it is supposed to with simplicity and ease of use. The videos are clear and just what you would expect from HD. It is overkill though if you just use a camcorder to put clips online. The HD's files are huge compared to the standard and will take forever to upload. I have the standard flip and it works great for that. Flips are quality products and you wont be sorry. Some other brands suck pretty bad if you look at all the reviews. I have had the standard version for over a year now and its still going strong.
Update July 2009- Very happy still. No problems and gave away the previous non HD version and use this exclusively

Digital camera Review: Beware of the warranty and the batteries!
Summary: 3 Stars

The Flip Mino HD isn't a terrible piece of technology - I like the size and the simplicity, and agree with most of the positive reviews I've read. However, I somehow overlooked 2 crucial points: the first is that they only offer a 90 day warranty, which on a electronics product that costs over [...] to purchase seems incredibly cheap. Of course, I discovered this because 5 months after owning my Flip it died, and I had to go through two sendbacks to the company to get a replacement. Ultimately they didn't charge me and were cooperative, but a 90 day warranty + a product that dies after 5 months makes me feel as if the Flip folks don't have much faith in the longevity of this device. (My Canon PowerShot 700, which is now nearly 4 years old, shoots video and works fine, in comparison.)

The second issue is the batteries - I overlooked that you cannot replace the batteries on this unit - when the time comes, you'll have to send it back to Flip for replacement. That said, assuming my replacement unit lives longer than 5 more months, I'm not sure when that will be - 1 year? 2 years? Perhaps size and portability is the price you pay for having a non-replaceable battery on this unit, but I was bummed to discover this after I already bought it.

Digital camera Review: Big Movies From A Tiny Camera
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased one of these for myself, and gave one as a gift, and I have to say it is one of the most fun and easy to use gadgets I have seen in years! First of all, this is a tiny camera - it fits in the palm of your hand - and unlike previous video cameras it is small enough you will take it with you everywhere. It is simple to keep in the glove box or a briefcase, which leads to getting great video when you least expect it. I was also pleased to see how easy it is to set up and use. Unlike many companies that make using their products daunting, Flip has really made it simple, with a web-based interface that you can master in minjutes. The video quality is suprisingly good, and it is simple to share videos with friends. A really great little camera!

Digital camera Review: Big video in a tiny package
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The MinoHD arrived in excellent packaging (very similar to an iPhone) and included a carry strap, a video out cable, silky carry bag and simple instructions. It charges via its built in USB connector and looks like a USB drive containing whatever movie files you've taken when you plug it into a computer, making it pretty much platform independent

Fit and finish was good and the unit is very small and light. Controls were very simple with mechanical USB connector release, on/off and record buttons, and "touch" buttons that appear as backlit symbols for play/pause, next, previous etc.

The unit is very simple and intuitive. The video quality is excellent (smooth frame rate and crisp, clear frames even in low light). Audio was also very good. Everything from a couple of feet away to infinity is in clear focus. Because the unit is so small and light you have to take extra care to hold it steady unless you want your videos to make people seasick ;-)

The lens is relatively wide angle and there is no zoom so its best suited to close subjects. It seems to do well both indoors and out. While the lens is recessed well, it is missing an automatic lens cover common on many digital pocket camera's.

So for anyone looking for high quality HD video in a small, light, inexpensive package and does not require a zoom lens this is a terrific product.

Digital camera Review: Broke down after a month and only 90 days warranty
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this item by X'mas 08. I was very happy with it until it broke down only after 1 month of usage. The battery charging light keeps blinking even after 3.5 hours of charging. And I can no longer turn on the camcorder. Their customer service has no phone support, only email support. And their warranty is only 90 days, which they promise only to have the camcorder repaired or replace with a refurbished unit.
