Digital camera reviews of Flip Ultra Video Camera - White, 1 GB, 30 Minutes (1st Generation) OLD MODEL

Digital camera Review: Camera
Summary: 3 Stars

Nice little video camera. Unfortunately my last video was all blurred. I believe this was due to the distance from the subjects.

Digital camera Review: Compact, instant memories
Summary: 5 Stars

The Flip Video is the perfect size to capture those immediate moments that you want to remember. It's lightweight and so easy to use and most of the time, you don't need anything longer than 30 minutes. It is also easy to hook up to a computer to download the captured images.

Digital camera Review: Decent gadget for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a very simple product for the price. You take the camera out of the box, put the included batteries in the camera, turn it on and press the red button to start recording. It has a flip out USB arm in lieu of a cable which is awesome. It zooms pretty well and videos are very clear with decent lighting. The sound on the camera cannot be adjusted or turned off when playing videos. It holds 30 minutes with no way to expand the memory. The software is ok but the video files are big (but I will find a way to make them smaller). It comes with AV cables so you can watch vidoes on a TV. The camera comes with a soft carrying pouch. Also the screen seems to be protected so it would be difficult to crack. For the price and the size of this thing though (fits in your pocket), it's a cool little toy.

Digital camera Review: Decent quality, excellent portability and a low price!
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first got the flip my expectations were pretty low - useful for situations where I don't have room for the 'real' camcorder.
That was about 4 months ago and since then the 'real' camcorder has been languishing in its case whereas the flip goes everywhere with us. I love that you can just slip it in your purse (it is a little larger than a deck of cards) pull it out when there is a memorable moment and record it at once! Downloading the video is as easy as pie! the software pops up when you flip open the usb thingie (tech ignorant here) and plug it into your computer. It allows you to edit, merge clips, add titles, etc and is definitely good enough for me. I don't make fancy super edited and workshopped videos of our family so this is perfect. I plug it in, email the video out and the entire family gets to see it.
The only drawback I can see is that the flip out usb seems to be a little flimsy. I have a laptop with horizontal usb ports and I always place the Flip on a book and then plug it in so that the weight of the camera is not hanging on the usb itself. My guess is that it is built to take it but I don't really want to take a chance.

Digital camera Review: Decent unit, some issues
Summary: 3 Stars

The Flip Video Ultra is a quick, easy to use, video capture device. The use of 2 AA batteries is a plus in my opinion as one can still use rechargeables, easily afford to carry a couple spares, and easily buy some new ones in a pinch and not worry about dealing with some esoteric, expensive, and proprietary lithium module. I found the video quality to be so-so. It does link right to the television which is nice, but the picture pixelates in shots involving movement. In terms of quality, the video captured by my Fuji digital pocket camera is better. The Fuji file needs to be converted for TV watching though so its not a slam-dunk choice. The particular unit I have is a bit touchy on the play-back button and one has to roll the button to the right to get the dang thing to play the video. I'm guessing this is a quirk of my unit. I purchased my Flip Ultra from Amazon when it was on sale for $49.99. Thus, I am reasonably happy with the unit. I did not give it 4 stars due to the video quality and button issue.
