Digital camera Review: Served the purpose.

I bought this for an adult ESL student who has never been to formal school, is just beginning to learn English and needed a speaking electronic dictionary. It is much less expensive than the adult version available in the USA (although you can get cheaper ones in China, or possibly on the used goods market) and has a vocabulary of 44000 words. It worked well for her and satisfied her needs, and probably will for a while to come. For kids, it seems like a useful resource till their vocabulary demands a more advanced resource, but hopefully by then they would be reading, writing and speaking fluently enough. For a more advanced ESL learner though I would recommend the Franklin Collegiate Dictionary; its much more extensive.Digital camera Review: Son loves it

I bought this for my son who is in third grade and needs help with spelling. He loves it! He uses it as entertainment, not just for school work, looking up various words, listening to the audio and playing games with his spelling words. It works perfectly for our needs, he types in how he thinks the word is spelled and the dictionary then gives him the correct spelling and pronunciation so he can be sure it is the same as the word he intended.
Others have complained of the odd voice on the talking dictionary but it is certainly not unintelligible by any means. It has held up well with normal use, no broken parts. We are happy with this purchase.

I teach preschool through 3rd grade in a small public school. My students are often frustrated when trying to use the spellchecking function of the word processor on our computers. It often does not recognize their phonetic spellings. But this product is designed to do just that, and the speaking feature tells them which is the correct word, without any adult intervention. It definitely fills a gap for young writers. I have also recommended it to parents of kids who need extra spelling practice. They can input weekly spelling lists or any other words, and their children can practice them painlessly with the games. This is a piece if junk. I have never written a review in my life but its so bad that I was forced to write this. I bought this for my son in 2nd grade and he can never find what he is looking for. I BOUGHT ONE FOR MY 10 YEAR OLD FOR CHRISTMAS. IT TELLS YOU HOW TO SPELL A WORD, IT TELLS YOU HOW TO PRONOUCE IT IN SPANISH IF IT'S MALE/FEMALE ETC. BUT IT CANNOT BE USED AS A DICTIONARY TO TELL YOU THE MEANING OF A WORD. IT ONLY TOLD US THE DEFINATION OF 1 WORD OUT OF ALL THE WORDS WE ENTERED. WE HAD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ITEM TO GET US WHAT WE WANT.
PS-WE ALREADY OWN SEVERAL DICTIONARIES WE JUST WANTED SOMETHNG THAT WOULD HELP QUICKEN THE PACE WHILE DOING HOMEWORK.
