Digital camera reviews of GE 24775 Quantum HDTV Antenna

Digital camera Review: So Far So Good
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently moved from another state where I had cable TV. I have a one-year old Samsung Digital HDTV purchased to be ready for the conversion to digital broadcasting. I couldn't watch HD programming without paying extra for it, which I never did. My new apartment wasn't cable-ready when I first moved in and it took Charter over a month to finally come activate cable reception for the building. Tired of no TV and no Internet (that's another Charter story) I went to Target and bought this antenna. To say that my reception was unreliable is a gross understatement. One day I decided to unplug the power pack from the power strip and see what happened. What happened after doing that is that I have been receiving crystal clear reliable reception in HD ever since! The only difference I can see is that the annoying blue light is off and that's a good thing. Another reviewer said you need that power pack for DVD's but I beg to differ, at least for me. I use my DVD player just fine without the power pack. So, if any of you who have reviewed this antenna and have given it a very poor rating because you have reception problems I suggest you try not using that power pack at all. Yes, the cords are short and that is also annoying but my antenna sits on top of my TV cabinet, aimed at the window, and I couldn't be happier with my reception. I gave up cable TV because it was a costly option for viewing the five or six channels I ever watched. I think this is a very good product so I'm giving it five stars.

Digital camera Review: Still No Good Reception
Summary: 1 Stars

This antenna looked good, but it has proven to be completely on reliable in my apartment in NYC. Although I was able to get the major HDTV broadcast channels, I never was able to get the channels when I first set this up, and it has since stopped picking up several of these major networks despite my frequent if not continual repositioning and adjustments to compensate for its bad reception.
This antenna just was not worth the $30 I paid and I wish I could suggest a different unit to you.

Digital camera Review: Still looking for a GOOD HDTV antenna
Summary: 2 Stars

We've had the antenna about a month. For the first two weeks it picked up 8 stations...the last two weeks the reception has been poor (at best). To add to the drop off in performance is that power cord frequently comes out of the jack. Probably wouldn't be a problem except for the fact we NOW constantly have to reposition the antenna depending on the channel we want to watch....the power cord falls out and that sometimes HELPS reception?! But not always...sometimes it doesn't help to pull the power. Nitpicking ->The blue LED is really too bright. I kind of don't care since I choose not to stare at it. My wife, however, could feel it boring into her brain (she's from Houston) and taped a magazine subscription card over it. Wish I'd kept the box and receipt b/c I'd return it...it's a piece. I couldn't be more disappointed.

Digital camera Review: Strong digital reception, can be easily hidden inside TV cabinet
Summary: 5 Stars

This HTDV antenna is small enough to fit comfortably at the back of a shelf only 8 inches high, completely inside the TV stand. It requires very little space--it can fit behind another component, since it doesn't need any human access in use. One wire to the antenna socket on the TV, power cord to the power strip used for cable box and DVD player, and it's entirely invisible, wholly contained within the cabinet. I use it to receive digital signals (only) in a strong signal area (tower 2.5 miles away), and it does a great job looking out through a wood-and-steel TV-stand cabinet, through internal walls (old-fashioned dense lath and plaster), and then through external walls. It's great not to have a large and ugly indoor antenna visible in the room.

Digital camera Review: Strong enough to power 3 TV's in different rooms
Summary: 5 Stars

My parents were spending $80/month for cable tv service just to get korean channels. So I told them to go to the store and get an indoor antenna and digital converter box. The sales rep sold them 3 each of this GE 24775 indoor antenna and a RCA converter box for all the rooms they wanted TV in. Well the first thing I did when I went to do the install was try the setup on a TV to make sure it works. Sure enough, it found 80+ channels and the quality was quite good. More surprisingly, they now had more Korean channels then before when they were paying $80+ for cable.

Then the geek in me wanted to see if I could network the antenna signal throughout the house by plugging it into the main hub. Their house is fairly new so it is wired for internet and tv in all rooms which is routed to one central location in the house. To my surprise, one of these GE 24775 antennas were strong enough to get great signal and quality on 3 tv's at the same time, all in different rooms of a two story, 3100sq.ft house. Wow! I will point out however that I had an amplified cable splitter (one-to-three) so that may have increased signal enough to be split so far. The amplified splitters are $10-$20 at most so that's an easy investment to make.

Each TV would still need the converter box next to the TV to change channels, but luckily 2 out of the 3 tv's my parents have are fairly new so they didn't need the converter boxes. So 2 antennas and 2 receivers would go right back to the store for a return saving them over $100.

The moral of the story is that this antenna signal is quite strong in our geographic location (even inside a 2-story house closet) and with a little extra know-how and time, you can save some money while getting what you want accomplished. I'm sure there are a lot of houses out there that are told to buy unnecessary equipment when there is a simpler solution, like what I've described above!
