Digital camera reviews of GE 74801 - CD clock radioDigital camera Review: Horrible- would give it a 0 if I could. Can't believe they sell them. Summary: 1 StarsI bought this alarm clock in 2005 because it had the dual alarm and you could wake to radio. I had a GE clock prior to that with a tape deck that lasted for almost 10 years, and I was hoping for the same thing when I purchased this product- however, it is horrible. I was able to set it up initially with out quite as much difficulty as some people seem to have had, however it is extremely quirky and the buttons don't do what they should (and the buttons are not easy to hold down to set alarm times, etc.). When you try to set an alarm, the nap function comes on, and then you have to try to hold down the nap button until it finally turns off, which does not work all the time (oh, and the manual does not tell you this, it says you should be able to cancel it like you would the alarm). When you want to go to sleep to the radio and hit the sleep function, sometimes the cd player starts to work. When you try to play a cd, sometimes it reads as no disc, othertimes it will play the first song and suddenly stop, othertimes it will play through, but skip, and rarely will it play an entire cd with no issues. The clock screen is always an extremely bright blue, and even set at its dimmest level, it is still too bright for me to sleep with and I end up putting a sock or something over it at night so the room is not lit up. I would like to add that I was traveling and stayed at the Venetian in Las Vegas and they had the RCA version of this and it had the exact same problems. Stay away from this alarm clock! It would be wonderful if all the bells and whistles worked and the buttons and underlying mechanics were not faulty, but it is horrible as is. I will not be buying anymore GE alarm clocks in the future.
Digital camera Review: Not great Summary: 1 StarsWithin a month of purchasing this product the CD feature stopped working. Setting the alarm is a pain - forget about changing the time once it has been set! I would not purchase this product again.
Digital camera Review: Horrible quality Summary: 1 StarsI bought this clock because the alarm reset button is on the front of the clock while the snooze button is on the top. This is an important feature to me because I often turn off the alarm in my sleep on clocks that have their reset control on the same side as the snooze button. This is a rare control layout, so I was very glad to find a unit like that.
However, the quality of the unit has proven to be horrible.
For example, the CD player has been increasingly unreliable. I've tried cleaning the lens, but it has not helped and now it cannot play most CDs. Also, the buttons to turn on/off the two alarms have become increasingly fussy.
Most recently, the button to check and set the alarm times now also sometimes turns on the nap timer. So often when I am setting the alarm before bed, the alarm also gets set to go off in 20 minutes. I can turn it down to 10 minutes, but I cannot find a way to turn off the nap function completely.
I found this unit extremely frustrating and disappointing. Since the CD player is essentially useless now, it has turned out to be a very poor value.
Digital camera Review: Ditto for all of Steve's comments Summary: 1 StarsI agree with Steve's comments about this product 100%. We've owned this product for probably 2 years and have yet to figure out how to set the clock or get it to play an entire CD (we bought it for use in our kitchen, and have not been able to use it because we can't figure it out). In fact, when people come over and the blinking "12:00" time annoys them to the point they say something to us, we just smile and say "why don't you try to set the clock for us." And it's always quite humorous seeing them struggle and get frustrated when trying to set the clock. Nobody has ever accomplished it either.
So.... today was one of these days where a friend decided to try to set the clock! And collectively we decided to go online to attempt to find a product manual (of course to no avail). We ended up hysterical once we found Steve's review online, since the way he described his frustrations were absolutely identical to ours!
Digital camera Review: Way too confusing for a clock radio Summary: 1 StarsI am happy to find that I am not the only person who cannot figure out the user manual and how to set the time. I got this for my daughter for Christmas a year ago. We barely managed to set the time according to the confusing manual, then had trouble with the alarm going off several times during the night and couldn't figure out how to unset the alarms. Now we've gone and lost the manual and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to set the time and I am hoping those blasted alarms don't go off during the middle of the night again. It's a dang clock radio and neither my husband or myself can figure out how to set the time. This is an awful product. It looks nice, it sounds nice, but forget about using it as a clock and hopefully you won't be woken up at all hours of the night because you've inadvertantly set the dual alarms and can't figure out how to stop them!
