Digital camera reviews of Garmin Colorado 400t Handheld GPS Unit with U.S. Topographic Preloaded MapsDigital camera Review: Geocaching helper Summary: 4 Stars
The 400T is an upgrade from the GPS I have been using for the past two or three years. Its not an answer to all of my problems, but it sure helps make solving them easier. The ease of operation and accuracy is outstanding, but I wish it had better, or more detailed maps of the area in which I work so I wouldn't have to spend more money buying a separate CD....Even with this shortcoming, I would say I'm quite satisfied....
Digital camera Review: Geocaching with the kids Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this GPS to try geocaching for the first time. So far it has worked great. Kids love using it and it is easy to use. I take it for vacations also and it's starting to replace the good old map. I recommend buying AA rechargable batteries unless you want to replace them after a full days use.
Digital camera Review: Getting better Summary: 4 Stars
As delivered I wasn't real happy with it. It would freeze when I would get close to a cache. I installed the new Beta 2.54 software and now it seems better. I love the features and fuctionality of the unit and I'm sure that Garmin will get the software figured out soon. If I was writing this review solely on the out of the box unit I would give it one star, with the upgrade four and after another update or two a 5 or 6.
Digital camera Review: Getting lost...no more Summary: 4 Stars
Finally a device that really works in the deep woods. If you like to go mountain biking, hiking or do any type of outdoor exploration, in areas that you're not familiar with, this Garmin unit is a must-have. There's nothing worse than going out in the woods for a nice hike, and then discovering you have no clue where you are. The Garmin 400t will let you know where you are and better yet how to get back to where you started from.
My major gripe with this unit (which is why the 4-star rating instead of 5-stars) is that after buying it and also buying the DVD for City Navigation I was hoping to use this unit for road biking as well. I assumed that the unit was compatible with Garmins Training Center Software because the unit is compatible with both Garmins heart rate monitor and cadence device. Why would Garmin make the 400t compatible with their heart rate monitor and cadence device and not make the unit compatible with their Training Center Software so that rides can be uploaded to the Web. Knowing that the unit was compatible with Garmins heart rate monitor and cadence device it was only logically to think that Garman would have made the unit compatible with the Garmin Training Center Software so that rides could be loaded into the training center software. Unfortunately, Garman decided not to make this unit compatible with their Training Center Software. I think this is a big drawback for anyone that wants to use it for road biking.
Digital camera Review: Good GPS unit Summary: 4 Stars
Great product with many many features, however the accuracy leaves something to desire. I live in central Atlanta and when I'm geocaching, while walking down major thoroughfares, the map will show my path as having walked right through skyscrapers. It's bizarre, really. I hear that there are several remedies to this, but other than that, it's really a great GPS unit with a ton of cool, useable features. You will love this product, but do what I did and don't spend more than $350 on it. Wait till the price comes down a little bit.
