Digital camera reviews of Garmin Etrex Legend GPS ReceiverDigital camera Review: A must have for travelers Summary: 5 Stars
The eTrex Legend is great. I've had mine for about 1 month and it has already proven useful on several occassions. A great feature over the lower eTrex models is the mapping capability. The built in base map (mine has North and South America) has more detail than I thought it would and the exits and services look-up feature makes it great for road trips. If you have been thinking about purchasing a GPS unit. This is a great one to start with.
Digital camera Review: A perfect choice for casual use Summary: 4 Stars
My research had come down to the Garmin Legend and the Magellen SporTrek Pro. The map was a bit better with the SporTrek Pro but the display was definitely not as good as the Legend. With the price premium on the SportTrek, I chose the Legend. I've had the unit about a month. I wish Garmin had included a 12V car power adaptor since this is almost a necessity. I was pleasently surprised with the sensitivity of the antenna and the life of the batteries. The ClickStick has proven to be quite acceptable for complex input into the unit. The provided map of Marine navaids is good but not great--boaters will need the greater detail available with BlueChart info. 8MB of memory seems just about right. I have no buyers remorse.
Digital camera Review: Alaska Back Country Summary: 5 Stars
This is very simple, I hiked this thing through a two day "Eco Challenge" in Kodiak, Alaska and it performed flawlessly. I dropped it. I banged it on rocks. I got it wet. I cussed at it because I was lost. :-) Yet no matter what indignity my team inflicted on this little blue gem, it kept on performing and it kept on showing me the way. The only thing that happened to it: well, of course, the batteries ran out when the rain came down the hardest and I had to get the VERY easy to use cover off the back and dig into my filthy back pack for a pair of AAs. Now after four years and countless batteries later, it resides on my motorcycle handlebar and tells me the time of day, my speed, and miles to go on my daily commute. Sun, rain, wind, this thing keeps on doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Great product. IF it ever breaks, I'll simply replace it with an exact copy and carry on for the next decade.

Digital camera Review: All the technology, for 1/10th the price... Summary: 5 Stars
Although this is my first hand-held navigation unit, I have owned several vehicles with factory navigation systems. I have to say that this thing gets more accurate location information and has more options with the trip computer, not to mention that the "base" map is actually more detailed that the unit in my BMW, ... I guess the cost in the car nav is in the voice controls and the integration, because the Garmin unit does everything else better. Reception in my area is great, my average accuracy being around 25 feet (according to unit). I bought it for mountain biking and it works wonderful as trip computer information accuracy does not seem to be terribly affected by signal strength. My complaints are the same as others' with the handle-bar mount... the battery cover is loose and sometimes the batteries come dislodged and it shuts the unit off. My other complaint is with acquisition time as it takes 20-30 seconds. I'm impatient. Other than that, I love it.
Digital camera Review: Almost perfect Summary: 5 Stars
It is an excelent piece of equipment; handy and easy to use. I dropped it a couple of times with no consecuences. Problems: the batteries wear out too fast: no more than 5 or 6 hours of continued use, and the compass does not work unless you move.
Overall: excelent
