Digital camera reviews of Garmin Etrex Legend GPS Receiver

Digital camera Review: Bought one for the second time.
Summary: 4 Stars

My wife and I got into Geocaching last year. We had a blast and had great results using our eTrex Legend. We ended up getting other distractions that kept us from GeoCaching so we decided to sell our Legend.

Well a year later we decided to get backing to caching because of some friends so we went looking again for GPSr units and after looking nothing seems to have topped the Legend in the value section.

I have read complaints about people losing sats but honestly from my previous experience, this only happened to us when the tree cover was almost completely blocked out the sky. I often used the unit indoors (near a window of course) and never had a problem using it in the car.

There are a few items that I buy a second time around, the only one that comes to mind off hand was a FujiFilm FinePix 1300. I tend to like value and items that retain a resale value, and from experience, the Legend fits both of those categories.

If you are looking for a sub $200 unit to Geocache with, this is the unit for you. With EasyGPS you can easily store and download Geocache waypoints to your Legend.

Also I don't think anyone mentioned it, but the Legend has a ton of different waypoint icons you can use, it even has GeoCache and GeoCache Found icons.

If I don't get the same results of the 2nd unit that I just ordered I will post it, but until then I am happy I stuck with the Legend.

Digital camera Review: Buen Equipo!
Summary: 5 Stars

Digital camera Review: Compares well with Magellan
Summary: 4 Stars

I recently bought this GPS unit to participate in my newest hobby - geocaching. It's helpful to be able to upload waypoints rather than manually typing them in. My sister has a Magellan GPS in the 400 series, and the accuracy between them is about the same. I'd gladly buy this one again. =)

Digital camera Review: Couldn't be easier to use..
Summary: 5 Stars

Don't understand the negative reviews on this unit. When I got it christmas morning, I pop'ed a couple of batteries in it, turned it on, and stuck it in my coat pocket. Did a bunch of driving, walking, etc... It followed my every move. It will initialize and find the satellites from INSIDE my house. I love it.

Digital camera Review: Currently Best Value in GPS
Summary: 5 Stars

This is definitely the best value for the money. With the $50 rebate till the end of the year it can't be beat. So far I have had no problems with the Legend although I haven't used it with leaves on trees. There are so many things you can do with this small unit you will constantly learn new ways to use it every time you pull the instruction manual back out. The basemap does have most roads and some lakes. However, it did leave a 450 acre lake in a state park off the map. The biggest mistake I made was not buying the unit with the Mapsource Topo together at half price. Paired with Mapsource Topo, it has the most remote creeks, lakes, reservoirs, etc. I have been able to locate one of the most remote native trout fishing streams with the software. Most people give the software harsh reviews, but considering the amount of detail people want, it will never fit on the GPS. And if it did, you would only be able to load a small amount onto the unit at a time. The garmin web site allows you to preview the software before you buy it which should give no one any room to complain. Aside from that, it's the only software that you can download the maps onto the GPS. If you have any other questions, email the company for an in-depth reply.
