Digital camera Review: Excellent Trainer for the budget-minded!!!

I purchased this several months ago and it is very cool. First of all, being kind of a gadget guy, it motivates me to go running since I can use the gadget. the personal trainer is a nice function, too. It keeps me honest and sometimes I like to "race" the trainer. The GPS locks in pretty quick, but sometimes can lose signal in trees.
If you want to spend a little more to be able to download data to your computer, look to the 201, but for the money, this is a great buy.

I've been using the Forerunner 101 since my wife got it for me for Valentine's Day. It's an outstanding piece of equipment. I use it for all my runs and the Virtual Partner helps out since I haven't found anyone crazy enough to run with me. I ran the Anthem 5K last weekend and it was not only accurate, but apparently water-resistant because of the pouring rain. It does seem to lose signal if you're amongst the skyscrapers in the city, but once you run out of the "concrete canyons" it pops you right back to where you need to be. The Forerunner 101 offers the ability to use replaceable AAA batteries. I use a set of NiMH rechargeable AAA batteries that last for about 1-2 weeks worth of running. The GPS takes awhile to lock onto a signal from a cold start. The longest it has taken was about 5 minutes! So I recommend going outside and stretch while the unit "warms up". Sometimes if I face Due West, the signal locks on faster.
The Forerunner 101 does not work inside most buildings, but it does work well in a car to track your GPS speed. The mapping feature is an interesting tool, albeit crude.
The Forerunner logs your mileage, calories burned, and average speeds.

This device has exceeded my expectations. Our primary usage to this point has been for max speed and distance measurement for radio controlled hydroplanes. The small size plus features like tracking "run" time separately from "rest" time along with the custom screen capability has worked out superbly. We can then compare different props and setups and know when we have made an improvement.
Meanwhile, my wife has also used it for walking and found the device very simple to use, easy to read and understand and added a fun factor back into her workouts.
The Forerunner 101 is an excellent value - I recommend it for everything from the traditional workout usage to things "outside the box", like speed measurement for RC cars, boats and airplanes.

The Forerunner is a great tool to learn to pace yourself over distance running. The features on it aid in helping you to achieve goals that you never thought were possible. It is very user friendly (I hardly ever have to refer to the owner's manual) and very lightweight and compact. For the price, you can't beat the benefits of this device. GET IT IF YOU ARE A SERIOUS RUNNER!! Or even a beginner. Or intermediate. The point is this: no matter where you are as a runner, you can benefit from the Forerunner. The only, I mean ONLY, change I could recommend is to have a vibrating pace alert instead of an audible one, since most runners use some sort of iPod type device while running.
