Digital camera reviews of Garmin Forerunner 205 GPS Receiver and Sports Watch

Digital camera Review: A Must For Any Runner
Summary: 5 Stars

What a great piece of technology. I can not only track my distance when out on a run I can analyze the data when I get home. I love the fact you can customize the data screens to show what information YOU want when out running. A must for any runner. Only advice, download after each run so you don't lose any info.

Digital camera Review: A Must Have!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I know some people say to run without all this technology and iPods...well buying this Garmin Forerunner has been the best investment of my running life. I am a petite woman and it looks kinda big on the wrist, but after a while you don't even know its there. I am not a pro nor an elite, but I do love a challenge and this awesome Garmin has helped me stay on track. I have had this watch for over a year now and it has not let me down. Not once have I lost signal or had it shut-off on me. (Note: if you do live in the city, signal there may take longer because of the tall buildings) If you are starting out, I would recommend this watch. It is easy to use and watching the results on the computer after your race is pretty cool. It is always nice to know your running pace. Your pace is the key to a good PR. I ran in high school and never new my running pace and now after so many years, I see it everyday. I learned to focus on a certain speed and my Garmin helped me do that. I can't wait for my first marathon because my Garmin will be there. Get this this before its gone!!

Digital camera Review: A great investment
Summary: 5 Stars

I have purchased a lot of running gear and accessories over the past two years, and I consider the Garmin Forerunner to be the best investment I have ever made in such items. I absolutely love not having to guess on mileage (especially on those long runs), I appreciate knowing my pace, and I really enjoy having the histories of past runs available at just a few pushes of a button or two. The Garmin Forerunner 205 rocks!

Digital camera Review: A great motivator - makes working out all the more fun.
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't believe I waited so long to purchase one. The only shortfall from perfection is that setup and options are not very intuitive, and that's coming from someone who's pretty good at figuring out computerized gadgets without a manual. The user's manual isn't very intuitive either but I found some online video tutorials at [...] that helped alot. The complexity of the watch is understandable once you realize all the things it can do. It's great!

Digital camera Review: A great system for running
Summary: 4 Stars

I love this gps watch. I had previously used the Nike+ stuff, and here's why I like the Garmin watch better:
1. The Nike+ sensors run out of batteries after a few months for me, and they're $29 each. So over the next 3 years, the cost is about the same.
2. The GPS watch is more accurate.
3. It automatically maps routes.
4. The software lets you add workouts you did without the watch - Nike doesn't.
5. You can schedule workouts, I found some marathon training schedules on runner's world UK for free.
6. Works for biking, hiking, etc. not just running and walking.
7. Don't need to fiddle with ipod, itunes, etc.
8. Workouts that are setup will keep you within a certain speed, great for training.

Minuses:
1. Big and bulky.
2. Takes a while to find the satellite if I don't turn it on ahead of time.
3. Software isn't as user friendly or fun as the nike website.
4. They have separate online and PC software, and I could never get it to work with the online software.
5. This is the cheapest GPS option by far, but it's a bit more money than the nike+ system. So if you're not sure you'll stick with running, I think the Nike+ is perfect for beginners.
6. Watch itself has tons of menus, small font, really intimidating and reminds me vaguely of calculator watches from the 80s. But without the cool factor.
7. If you set up a workout, it will beep if you're going too fast or slow. But it beeps constantly, and while you can change the beeping setting, that won't stop the beeping until the workout is over.

Other stuff:
- The software is effortful, it syncs with the watch easily enough, but there aren't any training programs set up, the calendar is lacking basic features ( like highlighting today's date), the workout details are hidden, etc. The software seems really afterthoughtful.
- I think I would rather wear the watch as an armband. It's quite a bit much to put on my wrist and I don't normally wear a watch.
- I really just want an accurate system, so this watch is total overkill. But it's easy to ignore all the add-ons, I just hit start to run and stop to finish.

Overall, I'm very happy with it, it just feels like wasted potential. Clearly, Garmin's money is in their car products, and Nike has more software talent. I wish they'd combine forces, and then we'd have the ipod of workouts.
