Excellent product. Flawless design and unit works very well. Replaces my GPS-12 (which worked well for what it was) and the 76CSx is somwhat similar to my old unit so learning the new one was a snap.
Standard map is very basic but will be fine for travelling on major highways. I opted for the City Navigator NT and a 2G memory card. The whole City Navigator (all of USA plus some) takes up a little more than 1G.
Reception is outstanding in the car, or even in my house. Anywhere outside it picks up strong signals. I use it in the car and out while riding my bike to keep track of where I went.
I highly recommend this unit.

I use to have older verion of GPSMap 76S too. I have been happy with that device too. I use my device both in sea and in forest. Issue with old version in forest was short-time of using device with battery power. You cannot have satelite receiving on all the time while batteries are finished in few hours. But with 76CSx this all changed. I was up in mountains hunting 5 days and I had satelite receiving on at least 25 hours without any problems(lithium batteries)! Got this to replace the etrex Vista CSX. This GPSr is interchangeable with my wife's GPSMap 60Cx. The 60Cx feels better in your hand but the features are identical, other than the electronic compass that we don't use. The price point was [...] less, when I bought the unit from AMAZON . The GPSMap 76CSX fits better on our Volvo dashboard than the 60Cx and makes it easier for me as a driver to see it. We use our GPSr's almost exclusively for geocaching. For our sport, the 60 & 76 models seem to be the units of choice. The Garmin Colorado has the potential to outperform these units, but not yet. This is a great unit. A little large for just hiking in the woods, but I use it for travel in the car as well as on my 1-5 mile walks. This is an upgrade from a Garmin GPS 12-MAP (which has been discontinued). The color screen is clear and easy to read in the varied natural light sources I've run into so far. The size is good for use in the car and the buttons are a good size (not like those on the blackberry where you almost need a stylus to push only one button at a time.)
Navigation in the menus is similar to the 12-Map with enhancements. The Geocache is new to me but I will be participating in geocaching with family and having fun. Haven't had a chance to explore the marine side of this unit yet.
I agonized over which unit to buy (the Legend, the Vista or something bigger). Because most of my use is not hiking, I elected the larger unit and am glad I did. It's worth the extra dollars, it's fun, pratical, and I expect to get a lot of use out of it over the next many years.

I am replacing a GPSmap 76CS with the X series version. I love it. With a 1 Gig chip in it I easily fit all the maps required for a recent trip from Washington DC to Milwaukee. With the new electronics, it comes up a lot quicker and stays locked on in places where my old one would not. Another nice new feature is receiving power through the USB connection so it does not use the battery when connected to the computer. All in all a great unit.
