Digital camera Review: A thing that will answer: Where On the World?...(or, WOW)
Summary: 5 Stars

In this age of materialism where we encounter tons of new products daily, there are a few precious items that becomes a necessity. For me, during the past three years, it has been the Palm pilot(the very first model from now-acquired US Robotics). Now, as for today, another item has checked in. The Garmin GPS III Plus. For me, many times driving alone, I needed a navigator that would direct me where I am heading to, besides plunging down from the Golden Gate bridge while shuffling through the maps. I bought it on the spot, and what a SURPRISE.

First, you are surprised at its tiny size. Why, your fist can grap around it and also, it is so light. Second. this is one powerful tool. Whenever you turn it on, the system initializes by tracking at least four satellite signals and then pointing out where you are now. MY HAIR stood on its end when this model pointed out the street in which I am writing this currently. Why, you can even zoom in up to 120 ft. There are some downsides. In order to get more accurate address(the model does points out on the map where I am now currently, but it does not say which street I am in), you have to buy CDs that has enough data.

Personally, I think this is more practical than the in-board GPS systems found in top autombiles like Mercedes S-class, since they can only help you during driving only. It cannot help you when you travel, go out biking, or in to the sea. Also, the data in the GPS is upgradable. It can download 1.5MB worth of maps. Too small? 1.5MB means that it can hold upto 1.5 Million characters of data. That is sufficient for a trip. Also, you can change the maps by downloading it from the CD via the PC or, in case of traveling, a notebook.

I still have 14-day trial period, but boy, this will not leave my hand. It BEGS you to be tested. This system will WOW you, or, it will answer a very profound question that billions of people have pondered and is still pondering to this moment: Where On the World am I?

Become the very few that has a highly precise answer to that profound question: "From downtown Manhattan to cold, Siberian plains, I have satellites that tracks and informs me of where I am right now."

Digital camera Review: A wonderful traveling companion
Summary: 5 Stars

This unit is a wonderful traveling companion. It locks onto the sats quickly and is very user friendly. I really enjoy using it on trips in the vehicle. It also works very well when walking. I also enjoy the downloading capability from the mapping software I purchased separately. I enjoy being able to review my trips via computer, and even printing them. I make my own topo maps of various places.
I have had the unit now for over a year. It is reliable, accurate, and alot of fun. You never have to worry about getting lost when you have a unit like this with you.
This would make a wonderful gift for anyone.

Digital camera Review: Best handheld GPS around except for one slight problem
Summary: 4 Stars

I was given the Garmin GPS 3+ for christmas and I am very satisfied with it! Perfect for just about any sport you want to use it for. It includes options such as: altimeter, current speed, max speed, average speed, odometer, sunrise/sunset, high-resolution map, satellite status page, highway position page (shows you how far off coarse you are), a compass page and many more features! The GPS aquires satellites very fast (usually under 10 seconds) and holds them even if you drive through a tunnel or heavy foliage (for a short time). On top of all this, I was extremely impressed on how well-built the casing is! Buttons feel very positive, and everything feels solid. The casing is also water-proof rated to 30ft (although I wouldn't recommend testing it).

A notable downside to this unit is the VERY small memory space for the Mapsource maps. In most cases, it will only hold about one large city. If you live in a large city, you will be extremely limited. If you travel a lot and need more detailed road information (the basemap on the 3+ only has major highways and some local roads), I would recommend you get the Garmin eMAP Deluxe because it comes with a Mapsource cartridge that will allow you to put much more detailed area on your GPS plus the EMAP is designed more for the road.

Overall, I would rate the GPS 3+ very high for anyone.

Digital camera Review: Can't take your eyes off of it.
Summary: 4 Stars

I left Denver International Airport with my Garmin GPSIII Plus. I put it close to the window by my seat and watched. It was remarkable how every turn of the jet in the airport was faithfully reported by this unit and when we took of it showed the liftoff speed etc. Climbing out of Denver, it showed just where we were, our speed, ETE, ETA etc. Arriving in Chicago, I had to change planes to a smaller jet. Upon taking off, it was a real trip to watch Lake Michigan both out the window as well as on the GPS. The visual display and the look of the lake and the cities by the lake looked pretty much the same on the unit or out the window. It was fun and informative to watch how the Air Route Controllers do not direct the planes to the the destination by the most direct route. Anyway upon reaching Washington D.C it was a real nice to have it with me to navigate our nation's capitol. It is pricey but worth it. On the down side, the software did not show some of the streets in my suburban neighborhood and the software should have been a little more up to date when I bought it.

Digital camera Review: Can't Imagine Driving Without It!
Summary: 5 Stars

I travel frequently for work and have spent my share of time trying to find my way around town. I bought this unit about a year ago and I have to say - it's the best use of new technology I've seen in years. I no longer search for client's offices, resturants, and hotels - I am able to drive like a local resident, going exactly where I need to go. I have saved countless hours of driving time, as well as eliminating loads of agrivation of driving and can't imagine driving without it. It's size allows me to take it in my briefcase and use it in rental cars across the country. This really is a great piece of gear - a must for any traveler!
