Digital camera Review: No better value in the business!

I waited nearly a year for the introduction of the "plus" model and it has been well worth the wait. The folks at Garmin are extremely helpful (even if they consistantly promise delivery dates far sooner than the actual ship dates) and knowledgeable. The unit itself is built quite well. The screen is clear and the backlighting is more than sufficient. Make sure you update the unit's ROM with the most recent version from Garmins web site since they frequently improve the product's capabilities. Also, spend the extra $100 and get the US Roads and Recreations CD ROM. It lets you upload (via a PC) all streets and street names down to the level of dirt roads. For interstates, it has exit info which inlcudes not only whether there are hotels, food and gas there, but which hotels, which gas stations and the names of restaurants....incredible. Otherwise, I use it on my motorcycle, in my car, hiking, that was impressive as you knew exactly where you were and the unit will calculate when you will arrive. It's IMPOSSIBLE to get lost with this unit and for about $400 bucks, you can't beat it or have more fun.Digital camera Review: One of the best GPS's on the market

I have had the GPS III+ for well over a year now and it has been an excellent performer at a good value. The mapping capability is a definite plus and the screen is very easy to see. I wouldn't pay the extra money for a color GPS. I bought the Map Source software, which increases the capability quite a bit. Downloading detailed maps and uploading waypoint data and track files is a snap. Besides the rock-solid performance of the unit, the software that runs the unit itself is the best I have ever seen in any product. It is versatile, programmable, intuitive, and extremely easy to use. Menus are lightning fast to navigate and one-handed operation is a snap with its ergonomic design. I've used it on a boat, bicycle, motorcycle, hang glider, and even in an F-16, and it has always performed flawlessly. Customer service is also first-rate. El mapa que viene en ROM de Chile, Peru y Argentina (y probablemente del resto de países fuera de USA) es muy pobre y desactualizado. La pantalla de mapa es muy pequeña y difícil (y peligrosa) de seguir mientras es esta en viaje. Si tienes un Garmin II+, y vives en Latinoamérica, espera nuevos modelos, pues del II+ al III+ no es tan espectacular. El mapa por su corto tamaño, es solo un bonito juguete. Si es tu primer GPS, es una muy buena elección. Si lo vas a usar en automovil, más que pegarlo con velcro, compra la base especialmente diseñada para tal efecto. This is just a quick note to remind people of the realistic capabilities of the gps 3 series and all other units. In the amazon/usps TV ad, the guy is running around his house playing with a new gps3 or 3+. These units function great, and will tell you how far it is to cleveland etc, but they DO NOT function inside buildings. GPS satelite signals are very weak, and even when you are outside, if you are near a large building or under lots of trees, your reception can be poor. The is not the unit's fault, it is the radio frequencies assigned by the gvt. If you use it in areas that recpetion is poor, the gps3 series is a good choice because it has an easily removeable antenna which can be placed on an extension cable for a small improvement, or replaced with an amplified antenna for a big improvement.Digital camera Review: Take it and you wont get lost

I take my Garmin GPS 111 plus every where I go and it workes great, I see some statements that you can not put a large city info into the unit, I put all of NYC into the data base and it hold all the 5 buroughs plus 2 NJ countys, if Im going out of the metro area I just download the area where Im going to use it. I cant say enough about the Garmin GPS 3
