Most hand held GPS devices do not actually do routing internally. The GPS III Plus has detail maps that can be uploaded to it, and programs like Street Atlas from Delorme add the routing before you leave the house or from your laptop on the road. I've used my GPS III+ for about six months now, taken it every where I've traveled or hiked. It's a great benefit to use with Delorme Topo Mapping software prior to trips where I upload waypoints and points of interest. I always know where springs, trails, lakes and landmarks are. Upon returning I download tracbacks, navigate distance and print my trips and routes for later reference.Can't be without now. I have the III+ and love it. I live in Alaska and as everything here is in the wilderness, I purchased the TOPO cd's from Garmin's 'MapSource', only to find that half of the mountains along Turnagain Arm are underwater! Hardly a software product I would bet my life on. If you use these TOPO maps, review them carefully first!Digital camera Review: This Product is saving my marraige

Like any "real" man, I hate to ask for directions, a trait that has led to many an argument with my wife. Since buying the Garmin GPS III, there has not been a single argument.
