Digital camera reviews of Garmin GPSMAP 276C GPS Receiver

Digital camera Review: Good but not Quite what I expected
Summary: 4 Stars

Without having seen one of these 'in person', I was surprised at how small the screen is. Also surprised that even though the device defaults to 'marine mode' (which is what we purchased it for), we had to spend another $150 on a data chip to see anything remotely 'marine'.

This should have a better description - not the fault of Amazon, though. I looked at various places to purchase and none were clear on these items.

Digital camera Review: Good unit - beware of hidden costs
Summary: 4 Stars

We use this for navigation whle fishing and boat camping in southeast Alaska. Even though it has a small screeen, it serves us very well, and we like how easy it is to take in and out of the boat, which would allow us to use it on the highways if we had any. User interface is fairly simple and installtion was a snap if you know anything about wiring diagrams and splicing wires into existing electrical or established fuse panels. Really not hard at all. Built-in Antenna makes it even easier but could limit reception in some vessels.

While I give the unit a solid 4 stars for it's function, ease of use, portability, battery life and overall features, I do have a couple gripes. 1) The power cable is hard to insert when the unit is in the mounting device... very little clearance between the mount and the plug. and 2) while not a complaint about the product per se - I really don't like how the maker - Garmin - nickel and dimes you to actually get up and running. And nickel and dime is a gross understatement. After paying for the unit, you can expect to spend another $ 200 on software and storage for your desired application. Garmin Blue Charts and a proprietary storage device ended up bringing the total of this little package to almost $800, which I think is deliberately over-priced. The safety of my family is well worth the money but I think Garmin thinks much too much of its products.

Digital camera Review: Great product!

Digital camera Review: Great service
Summary: 5 Stars

It wa a great business experience, everything was in great conditions and everything was in time

Digital camera Review: I think the older model (176C) was better for me
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm a Amazon River Pilot and I use GPS only for marine navigation. The GPSMAP 276C is a good equipment but in my opinion has too many features that most people do not use. Before I had a 176C that was much more easy and quick to use for marine navigation: it was made for that. The only advantage I see in the 276 is it's better screen resolution. I only got the 276C because my 176C had a problem in the screen and I could not get a new one as it had been descontinued. Also Garmin charts are very bad for the Brazilian coast: I do not understand why they use charts from so many countries that do not have good information about the Brazilian coast ( russian charts for exemple ).
