Digital camera Review: 60CSx on/off road

I use this GPS device for off and on road use. I jeep in very remote areas. The 60CSx is very accurate and aquires satellites quickly. Reception is great in mountain terrain. Tracking and routing are very accurate and handy when hiking. Its great to have it in my Jeep from home, on the trail, and then click to my belt and take a hike. Very nice. Plenty of memory for storing trips, runs, and hikes. I bought the City Navigator North America software with the unit. Awesome for planning trips. My wife loves this thing when traveling, I can't get it out of her hands. A simple sinc between software and GPS unit and I'm good to go. Finding locations/places/addresses is a little cumbersome using the GPS device, but what do you expect from a compact hand held unit? Its nice to be able to look up this information on the fly when traveling like gas stations, hotels, banks etc.. MAKE SURE TO UPGRADE THE MEMORY TO 1GIG. My handheld now has all my North America Maps, possibly excluding New York City and LA because of their massive memory usage, and you can always add these if you need them. I sure don't. The Altimeter, Barometer for weather, and Electronic Compass are a huge step up from my old basic Garmin non-mapping unit. Easy to learn. Upgraded to the newer 60CSx from our aging 60CS. Still using side by side.
The new chip is quite a bit more powerful. Can get 7 Sats sitting in my living room. Wow... With a good signal we are within a few feet when using both but the ability to more quickly get a lock in heavier terrain is a real plus for the CSx. Battery compartment seems a little better designed.
Replaced the memory card with a 2Gb and loaded ALL the City Select and ALL the Topo from Utah to the Pacific, Canada to Mexico at once which only took about a 1/3 of the space. Now just have to learn how to fill the rest with Geocaching waypoints. The CSx still limits at 1,000 waypoints but I understand there is some way to use the added memory for waypoints as well. It is just not readily apparent.

Excellent handheld GPS with great potential but requires several add-ons. I bought the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx Handheld GPS Navigator with the expectation that detailed maps would be included with the GPS. A very basic map was included with extremely limited information. I suggest buying at least two 2gb flash storage cards. After my purchase I also bought the Garmin Topo map and North American City Navigator Maps. The entire city navigator map will load on a 2gb mini SD. This whole outlay of extras cost nearly as much as the GPS but without them the GPS is fairly useless.Digital camera Review: A GPS Handheld Made EASY

By far this is the Best GPS unit I've owned. It is easy to setup and ease of use for any level of user is superior to all other units. It's ability to connect to multiple satelites is second to none. I have used the unit from the mountains of Maine to the shores of New Jersey and have had nothing but great experiences with using it. I purchased the unit for hunting but have found a new use that my kids love "geo caching". Using the unit with the kids has proven it's toughness and level of water resistance. I could not say enough about the unit. I highly recommend this unit to anyone who wants a quality GPS at a practical price.
