Digital camera reviews of Garmin GSC 10 Speed/Cadence Bike Sensor

Digital camera Review: Ant+ sensor
Summary: 5 Stars

Arrived and installed with no issues, paired up with my Bontrager Node 2 computer without a hiccup. As a note of interest, I used a magnet about the size of a dime on the end of my pedal (ferrous metal) that faces inward and aligned the sensor to that magnet. This eliminated the need for tie wrapping a magnet to the crank and it is out of sight. The magnet is strong enough to remain attached to the pedal and is recessed enough not to be knocked off. Even if it falls off it is cheap to replace. Very clean. Someone should market a magnet insert to fit the allen wrench socket, this would certainly get rid of a lot of unsightly, unnecessary tie wraps. Four stars for installation as it needs to be properly aligned and adjusted, not plug and play.

Digital camera Review: Attaches easily to any bicycle; NOT EVERY BIKE!!!
Summary: 3 Stars

The Tech Details for the GSC-10 states "Attaches easily to any bicycle; 1-year warranty" Many retro or comfort cycle owners should verify there frame will allow alignment of the three parts to attach properly. The spoke magnet has to align with the GSC-10 sensor, not a problem.

On my Electra Townie, a comfort class bike, the pedal crank arm is located too far forward to allow alignment of the third sensor. The pedal crank arm magnet is required to align with the GSC-10 and the spoke magnet in order to measure your pedaling strokes per minute.

It is not critical for operation, but you will be unable to measure your pedaling strokes per minute. Although a general road touring cyclist, I did purchase the unit and the Edge 705 in order to measure everything I could. It was disappointing to learn AFTER the fact that I will miss a key measure.

Digital camera Review: Battery dead
Summary: 4 Stars

The product is great, I have used it extensively both for road and MTB cycling. Very easy to install and almost no set up, you'll be pedaling in minutes. Only reason not to give 5 stars is that it stopped working about two weeks after instalation and I was sorprised to find that the battery was dead (probably a long time in inventory), the new battery has worked fine for months so is not a matter of high consumption.

Digital camera Review: Battery..?
Summary: 1 Stars

I guess I'm crazy for thinking something should work out of the box. The customer service/tech support rep seemed amazed I hadn't already rushed out to buy a new battery. The thing is kind of a pain to set up too -- but it'd all be a lot more worth it if I didn't have to make an extra run to the store.

Digital camera Review: Best combo sensor on the market
Summary: 5 Stars

Easy to install and easy to set up. It just plain works. I have used CatEye computers with the combo sensor and could never get them to work for more than a couple of weeks at a time. Since I installed the unit a couple of years ago, I haven't even thought about it. The pairing with my Edge 305 is flawless; changing tires / sizes is not a problem. The Edge automatically calibrates for the new tire size.
