Digital camera Review: 2008 UPDATE
Summary: 5 Stars

This program installed easily and prompted correctly. Because I have a 330 I had to leave out the Canadian maps, but, as I know my way to Toronto, and everything else I do is in the USA, it was not problem. I like the added instructions and the new version finally puts the hotel I often stay at in Syracuse on the RIGHT side of the Thruway!

Good upgrade and worth the money.

Digital camera Review: A Small Problem
Summary: 3 Stars

The maps are fine but it took two calls to tech support to get it transferred. Thats a problem since I maintain workstations and servers. If it was a problem for me I am sure it would be for others with the Garmin 340.
It should have been debugged before it was released.

Digital camera Review: A great upgrade, but overall cost has gone up if you own more then one!
Summary: 4 Stars

I always believe in upgrading any product I own with the latest software. When I found out about the Garmin Map Update 2008 City Navigator for North America NT, I set about find out the best place to order it. As it happens, Garmin has expanded its sales philosophy and the upgrade is available at many locations both on line and at regular stores. I opted to get it from Amazon, as the price was very good and as Prime member, the shipping was free. My order showed up in two days and I proceeded to immediately upgrade my Garmin GPS. It went flawlessly and I guess you can say that I am a Happy Camper!

My only complaint (resulting in a four star rating instead of five), is that you now have to buy the upgrade for each Garmin you may own, whereas in the past, you could upgrade two devices. Since both my wife and I each have Garmins, it unfortunatley cost us a little more overall, but we will still do the upgrades in the future.

Digital camera Review: A solid update from a solid company
Summary: 5 Stars

As someone who is constantly traveling, I rely upon my GPS to help me get around new cities and to locate services. Having access to the POI database on my Palm LiveDrive is simply invaluable.

This update corrects a large number - not all of them to be sure - but a large number of changes to the real world are now correctly reflected in the GPS database, particularly POIs.

For those who might be technically challenged, you can quickly see exactly what has changed in the update by running Mapsource, zooming in on an area, and then flipping back and forth between the old and new versions of City Navigator using the mapset drop down box at the top of the screen. I found changes everywhere I looked, notwithstanding the plethora of comments to the contrary.

Garmin's only real error is naming this product "2008" as it seems to have created expectations that it is current to the real world as of 1 Jan 2008. Product development and map data creation being what it is, newer changes to road systems take a while to filter through the system and make it into the database. This product is the newest data available, but that doesn't mean that every change to every road made in the last 3 years will be reflected.

Nevertheless, there are more than enough changes here to make the update worthwhile. A fine product.

Digital camera Review: ANOTHER GARMIN RIPOFF
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm from Canada but travel into the south eastern states quite a bit. I own the StreetPilot C330 and wanted to update my maps. I started the installation process and the factory installed maps were deleted (no problem, the manual says you can revert to the factory installed maps anytime). Then the installer gives you 2 options; install the continental USA or Canada and the states that border Canada. No where on the package do they tell you this. So I contact Garmin, guess what they don't support the original map software for my Garmin anymore, so despite what the manual says, I can't revert to the old software.
What's the solution? Install the US maps and buy an SD card for the maps of Canada for another $80 bucks. What a deal I'd have $180.00 into a GPS device that Garmin doesn't make anymore, whose map software is already extinct and that Garmin will likely stop providing support for in the near future.
As another reviewer said "save your money for a new GPS instead".
