Although this was supposed to be the updated version, many of the directions were inaccurate or took me the longest route. I live in Austin, TX and the roads are constantly under construction, but GARMIN is so far behind in mapping that it's just pathetic. When you pay 500-600 for a GPS system it's not unreasonable to expect FREE map updates for at least a couple of years....especially when they are SO out of date. GARMIN is at least 2 years behind in mapping Austin roads...and now they want us to pay $60 for an update that should have been included. What I wish I had known before the install was to delete the old data base form my device FIRST. Read the directions in the owners manual 2nd for installation. I spent hours fixing an incredibly sluggish start up, at times it just sat there for 5 minutes and I had to reset. Now it runs very well, quick to draw reroutes. So far the road accuracy is good except newer developments, 1-2 years old, in some moderate sized Oregon cities. Pronunciation is still just as bad, it's Oregon not Orygun and that's an easy one.Digital camera Review: 2008 upgrade no improvement, why buy this one?

I bought my Garmin C340 in the spring of 07. Garmin gave me a free 2008 upgrade disk a few months later. I installed it and have yet to see any improvement over the original maps.
Based on that experience, and after reading many of the 2009 reviews, I'd say don't bother with the 2009 upgrade.
Too expensive for little to no improvement.

I found that this map update was exactly what I needed on my unit since it was already 2 years old. I did end up getting my garmin update at autonavdirect.com as they are direct garmin dealers and I bought my unit from them awhile back. Glad to have the update on my unit so now I do not have to spend several hundred dollars on a new unit. Thanks
